- December 2008 - Southend - Metallic Disc Photograph
Birmingham UFO Group Report I find it fascinating when people send in UFO sighting details to the group. But it’s even better when they have some actual proof of their encounter, and can add a lot of weight to their story. In this particular case, a UFO was both witnessed and photographed by Gary, his wife Deborah and two children (Names changed for privacy reasons). Both the appearance and the movement patterns displayed by the object were very interesting. The incident took place back in December 2008 and at the time they did not decide to report what they had seen. However in late November 2009, Gary and Deborah randomly began discussing the sighting again and thought they would send it to some UFO groups as they would be interested to see it. BUFOG was one of the groups who received the photograph with a brief description of what happened, and I soon got in contact with Gary for further details on the incident. Sighting Details The family involved in this case live close to East Beach in Shoeburyness, Southend, Essex. Their sighting occurred in the second week of December 2008. It was a day of mixed weather, with both sunlight and showers. It was 10am and the family were out for a drive. It had recently ceased raining. Looking to the North West they suddenly noticed that a rainbow had appeared in the sky. It was in the direction of East Beach so Gary suggested they drove over there to get a better look at it. Aerial map showing Shoeburyness and East Beach: 📷 About five minutes later they arrived at East Beach, and parked the car close to the water’s edge. The beach was quiet due to the rainy weather. Over the water on a clear day it is possible to see across to Kent without having to get out of the car. The family looked out of the car windscreen at the rainbow. Almost immediately they noticed a stationary object in the sky. It appeared to be metallic and was reflecting the sunlight. The object was smooth-surfaced with curved edges and did not appear to have any protrusions or obvious means of propulsion. Gary estimates it was about ¼ of a mile out to sea, and possibly a few hundred feet high. In his opinion it was large in size, possibly twice as wide as a long wheel transit van. All the family were puzzled by the object. Gary decided he would get out of the car and take a photograph of it almost immediately. There was a slight breeze coming in from the sea, a mild temperature (about 7/8 degrees C) and it was very sunny with partial cloud cover. It had been raining about 10 minutes previous. The object was hovering over the sea and was completely silent. Gary aimed his camera to the North West and took one photograph. Due to the distance the object was not very big on the photo but could certainly be seen. Gary got back into the car and the family continued to stare at the object. Deborah had no idea of what it could be, she was mystified by the fact it was hovering completely still in the sky. Her and Gary joked about it being a UFO, but in truth that is exactly what it was. About two minutes went by, then suddenly without warning the object shot vertically upwards at a fast speed. It did this instantly rather than slowly increasing in velocity. In a few seconds the object was completely out of sight and had vanished into the sky. There was no cloud above which it could have been hidden behind, it was just gone. The family were amazed at what they had just seen and wondered how the object could have remained stationary one moment and then moved extremely fast the next. Later in the day Gary copied the photograph off his camera and was pleased to see that the object had come out on it. Photograph Analysis Below is the original photograph of the UFO with the rainbow in the background. The object can be seen in the upper middle of the photo: 📷 Focus on the UFO: 📷 Zoom view of the object with noise reduction: 📷 Zoomed edge find view of the object: 📷 As you can see, the object certainly appears to be solid and metallic or highly reflective. It appears to be a “classic” flying saucer shape, a disc with a raised domed top. The pixilation around it is caused by the resolution of the photo, and is not due to an aura of some kind around the object. The object does not look like a conventional aircraft of any kind or a bird. MOD Freedom Of Information Request On 6th December 2009 I sent the MOD a Freedom Of Information request which stated the following: "Please can you let me know if you were flying any aircraft, or have records of detecting any unknown aircraft, in the airspace just off the coast of East Beach, Shoeburyness, Southend in early December 2008 (Time approximately 10.05am, exact date unknown)?" Their response, received on 6th January, read as follows: "Thank you for your email of the 6 December 2009 requesting information on aircraft activity off the coast of Shoeburyness in early December 2008. This has been considered as a request for information in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). The Ministry of Defence (MOD) does hold some records for MOD aircraft that flew in the month of December 2008. However, we will not hold information on non-military aircraft that may have been active in that area. In order to confirm whether we hold any relevant information would entail the interrogation of individual flight plans for the aircraft movements of over 840 fixed wing aircraft and 470 rotary aircraft based at over 30 MOD flying stations. The number of aircraft movements from each station will vary depending on their role, for example RAF Lossiemouth, which is an operational base with aircraft that deploy on operations, could have as few as 2,500 movements a month whilst a training station such as RAF Cranwell could have in excess of 6,000. An extrapolation for the whole country, based on the movements at a station such as Lossiemouth, indicates that there would be an average of 6,250 movements in a month. With the interrogation of an individual flight plan taking a minimum of five minutes a conservative estimate indicates that in order to identify whether we hold the requested information would entail over 6,000 hours of work; this would exceed the cost compliance limit under Section 12 of the FOI Act. If you can provide further clarification to your request we can make another attempt to identify whether we hold this information." Conclusion This is an absolutely fascinating sighting and one I currently feel has many signs of being genuine. Most explanations for what the object could have been can be disregarded because of the highly impressive manoeuvres observed. The object was able to hover completely still in breezy weather conditions, and then suddenly increase to a dramatic speed and fly straight upwards until out of sight. Most conventional aircraft could not do this, and it is obvious from the photograph and witness descriptions that the object was not a helicopter or military jet. Also if it was, Gary would have certainly been able to hear it when he got out of the car to take the photograph. Of course it could not have been a bird or meteorite as it remained stationary in the air for two minutes before moving. As there was a breeze at the time it is also very unlikely to have been an inflatable or balloon as these would certainly have drifted in the wind. There is a Ministry Of Defence owned base a quarter of a mile away from East Beach. Gary believes that it is manned 24 hours a day to watch out for swimmers or kite surfers crossing their boundary. Could the object have been some sort of military drone aircraft being test flown? It seems very unlikely that they would fly this in full view of the public. However, back at the time this is what Gary and Deborah assumed it may have been, despite the fact that it looked nothing like anything they had ever seen before. As you can see in the response from the MOD, they do allude to flying aircraft in that area, but cannot provide specifics - a completely acceptable and understandable reply. Gary has no reason at all to make up the details of what was observed, they did not report the sighting back at the time to anyone and have at no point attempted to make any money out of it. He comes across as a very down-to-earth and logical man. He has never really thought much about UFOs before and is happy that he has now seen and photographed one for himself. - November 2005 & 04/01/2010 - Lozells & Balsall - White Orbs & Orange Orb Sightings
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Last Updated: 03/02/2010 This report covers two seperate UFO sightings by a musician named Russell Davies, who lives in the Birmingham area. His first sighting took place in mid November 2005, and his second on 4th January 2010. With both sightings a second witness was also present, and both have some very interesting aspects to them. November 2005 Sighting In 2005, Russell lived in a house on Berners Street, Lozells, Birmingham, with his girlfriend Stephanie Holyoak. At 8pm one evening in mid-November, they stepped out into the back garden so Russell could have a cigarette. It was a clear still night, and some stars were visible between patchy cloud. Russell suddenly noticed at the edge of his vision some lights in the sky. He looked towards the East in the direction the lights were coming from, and immediately spotted what looked like two very bright white orbs of light. These orbs appeared to be independent of one another. They were at quite a high altitude, Russell believes at least 1000 feet up. Aerial map of sighting location: 📷 The orbs were moving at an extremely fast speed, much faster than a plane would pass across the sky. They appeared to be moving at thousands of miles an hour. They were leaving no trails behind them and appeared to be flying side by side. They passed overhead and began flying away to the West on a straight course. Russell alerted Stephanie to the lights and she glanced up just in time to see them. She exclaimed “Oh yes...what’s that?” A couple of seconds later the orbs had completely vanished into the distance and were lost from sight behind some nearby rooftops. The entire sighting lasted for 8-10 seconds. When Russell spoke of the orbs, some assumed they may have been earth lights, but Russell does not believe this explanation. The speed they travelled at was stunning, much too fast to be aircraft. It seems very unlikely that the objects seen were earth lights, these do not tend to appear over urban areas and do not traverse the entire sky on a straight flight path. It is also improbable they were meteorites – it is extremely rare to see more than one meteorite at any one moment. Also meteorites travel across the sky within a split second, the orbs seen were moving too slow to be meteorites, yet too fast to be conventional aircraft. It is not known whether or not the orbs were two lights on a single larger object, however Russell believes they were two separate objects flying in formation. This is certainly an interesting sighting and one which I believe could well have been something out of the ordinary. January 2010 Sighting At 5.30pm on 4th January 2010, Russell was out in a van on the main road out of Birmingham, in the area of Balsall. He was sitting in the passenger seat. Aerial map showing stretch of road along which the sighting took place: 📷 It was a cold and overcast evening but was also quite still. Looking out of the front windscreen he suddenly noticed an orange glowing orb of light within half a mile of his position, in the sky off to the right of the road. He pointed it out to the driver of the van, Michael Tingle, who initially assumed it was an aeroplane. It was hard to judge how big the object was, but Russell believes it was about 10 feet across. He estimates it was a few hundred yards high, and he was viewing it at a 30 degree angle from the van. As he and Michael watched, the orb crossed the road ahead of them. It looked to be moving about 50 mph. It remained hovering over fields to the left of the road. As the van past the object, it appeared to follow the van on the passenger side. It remained at the same velocity as the van for about 10 seconds. Michael did not see this as he had to keep his eyes on the road, but Russell informed him what was taking place. Drawng showing the van on the road, and the path of the object in relation to it: 📷 Russell felt that the object was aware of their presence and was watching them. It then slowly faded away from the top down over about 5 seconds, during which time it continued to move alongside the van. After it had vanished, Russell felt the object was still there but no longer visible, almost to let them know it was something out of the ordinary. In total the sighting lasted for about 40 seconds. Soon after this sighting, Russell released a new music video named Alkaline Addiction, which was directly inspired by the incident. You can watch this video on our Reccomended Music page. You may look at this sighting and immediately dismiss the object as nothing more than a Chinese lantern. Certainly some of the aspects of the sighting could fit this explanation. Lanterns are often reported as looking like bright glowing orange orbs of light. Russell admits it was hard to tell the exact distance and size of the object. Other than the way that the object appeared to follow the van and match its speed, there were no other manoeuvres which would indicate it was under control. Could this movement have been down to a sudden change in air current direction? Or even an optical illusion due to the direction/distance of the object? The way that the object slowly vanished over 5 seconds could be put down to the flame inside it burning out. However Russell has clearly stated that he believes the object was something else entirely, for a number of valid reasons. He has seen lanterns drifting in the sky at night on numerous occasions before. He says that the object was much more solid and spherical than a lantern would usually appear. It was a still evening, yet the object appeared to be travelling at quite a speed. It also appeared to be too low to be caught in high altitude air currents. It suddenly altered its course as the van drove past and then appeared to track the moving vehicle, keeping in line with the passenger side window. Russell found this movement to be very controlled and deliberate. Lanterns have been known to remain lit for up to 45 minutes – if it was a lantern it seems very coincidental that it would burn out shortly after changing course alongside the van. So with this particular sighting I reach an open verdict. Lantern or not? Some aspects point towards this being the case, but others tend to suggest otherwise. Ultimately it is up to you to decide what you want to believe. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2010
- 12/02/2010 - Walsall - Pulsating Orb & Red Lights Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Report Author: Dave Hodrien Release Date: 17/02/2010 This report covers a sighting by another paranormal investigator, Martin Evans, who was a former committee member of UFO Research Midlands (UFORM). He got in touch with me shortly after experiencing some intriguing UFOs in the area of Walsall. Sighting Details On the evening of 12th February 2010 at approximately 9.05pm, Martin was walking along Hillary Street in Walsall, on his way to Morrisons supermarket. It was a cold and cloudy evening with only small gaps in the cloud. There was a slight breeze blowing. He suddenly noticed a glowing object in the sky to the South West. He at first thought it must be a police helicopter but then realised there were no navigation lights. Staring at the object he could see it was a glowing orb of light which was regularly pulsating between a white and red/orange colour. The object appeared to be moving slowly across the sky. It was hard to judge its size or how far it was away from him. Aerial map showing location of sighting: 📷 Martin watched the object for 2 minutes. He was wondering what it could be when suddenly two smaller red coloured orbs of light, which looked like red stars, dropped from the base of the object one at a time (2 seconds apart) and began descending towards the ground. He was amazed at this and felt the object was something highly unusual. Martin always carries his camera and binoculars, and scrambled to get them out. As he did, the red orbs almost reached the ground and then suddenly vanished without trace. The main object then made a sudden right angle turn and began heading away from his position. He took a couple of photographs but the object did not come out on them. It soon disappeared into a cloud and was lost from sight. Soon after the sighting, he asked people further down the street and the manager in Morrisons whether they had seen anything, but nobody else had seen the objects. Martin is a former Observer of the Royal Observer Corps (RAF). He is also a military and aviation expert. The objects were like nothing he had ever seen before and he was convinced they were of alien origin. Sighting Analysis This is a very interesting sighting and certainly seems to have been of something unusual. The pulsating colour of the main object is completely different to that of any conventional aircraft, which have either static or strobing lights. It is also unlikely the object was a Chinese lantern. Lanterns do flicker but do not change from one colour to another constantly. The right angle turn that the object performed also suggests that it was under intelligent control rather than something simply drifting in the sky. It made this change of direction shortly after dropping the two smaller red lights which suggests it had deployed them and was then leaving the area. The fact that the two smaller red lights apparently emerged from the main object again points towards it being something out of the ordinary such as a conventional aircraft, balloon or lantern. It is interesting to wonder what these smaller objects could have been and for what purpose they were deployed. I find this a fascinating sighting and one which cannot easily be explained away. Martin will shortly be sending through a drawing of what he saw, so check back soon. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2010
- Michigan Contact Case - Hair Covered Being
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Release Date: 10/03/2010 Every so often BUFOG receives details about sightings which have taken place in other countries. The majority of these tend to be of UFOs seen in the sky. However this report covers something more unusual - an encounter with what appeared to be a tall humanoid being in Michigan, USA. Incident Details Jacquelyn Grace Lee is a student from Kentucky. Back in 2000 her and a friend were on their way home from work in the early hours of the morning. It was about 2.30am and they were on the main road that runs between Poniac and Detroit. It was a warm night and the sky was clear. The road was very dark; they were on a stretch with no street lighting. In the road ahead they suddenly noticed what at first appeared to be a car that had broken down. As they got closer, they realised it was not a car at all. It looked like a tall humanoid figure standing in the middle of the road. It was about 7-9 foot high. Jacquelyn believes it may have been covered in fur. They drove to within 15 feet of the figure before braking to a halt. For several minutes the figure did not move, it was as if it was looking right at them as they stared back at it. Then suddenly without warning the figure started running towards their car. It ran around the passenger side and away into the night and was lost in the darkness. Incident Analysis This is of course a very interesting sighting. I feel certain that it was of a being or animal of some kind, the fact that it stood still, then suddenly ran right past the witnesses car is enough proof of this. It was probably in shock for a while by the sudden headlights on it. The question is, what could it have been? Could the figure have been a normal wild animal of some kind - perhaps a bear reared up on its hind legs? This seems unlikely as the witnesses got quite close to the figure and had light shining on it, surely they would have been able to identify it. Also when it ran off it appeared to do so on two legs not four. The description of the being is very reminiscent of a big foot. Could this have been what Jacquelyn and her friend saw? Or could this have been a genuine sighting of an extraterrestrial? You may not be aware, but there have been numerous reports of tall hair-covered beings relating to UFOs in the past. For example, Timothy Good’s book Alien Liason covers a case from a ranch in Colorado where such beings were seen. Below are a number of excerpts from it: “Prior to the experiences, John and Barbara had pooled their finances together with Jim in order to purchase the ranch, which is located in the Rocky Mountains area...After settling in, unusual events began to occur, including untraceable humming sounds, electrical power failures, sounds of someone or something walking around outside the house, sightings of UFOs and humanoids, ‘Bigfoot’ type creatures observed in the woods, ‘messages’ broadcast on the radio and stereo systems – and cattle mutilations.” “One night , at about 10 o’clock , two visiting friends and a rancher heard a strange noise emanating from the cistern south-east of the house and about 60 yards up a slope. ‘All of a sudden after listening to this noise’, Jim told the investigators, ‘a huge dark object pushed its way through the barbed wire and came straight at them down the hill. They all came running into the house... We subsequently went back and traced the route and sure enough, there were some footprints. ‘I removed some hair from the fence, noticing that it had pushed its way through the barbed wire: it didn’t jump the fence, but just by sheer force alone spread it and went through. There were long strands of hair...” “On other occasions, Jim saw the hairy creature running near the house. ‘I was tolerating it to a certain degree. One night I didn’t. I went out and one was running beside the corral and I shot it. Barbara came running out, and when Harry and Roger came back from town we went tracking to see if we could find what I had shot. It didn’t seem to hurt it at all.” Perhaps the sighting by Jacquelyn and her friend was of a similar being. The description she provided and the fast running speed of the creature seems to match the beings seen in the Colorado case quite well. Sadly we will probably never discover for sure what was seen, so it will more than likely remain an intriguing mystery. I have contacted Jacquelyn and asked her to send through a picture of what the being looked like. If I receive it I will add it to this report. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2010
- 12/03/2010 - Dudley - Black Rounded UFO Photographs
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Release Date: 20/03/2010 In March 2010, multiple witnesses sighted an unusual black coloured object in the sky over Dudley Castle. One of the witnesses contacted me about the incident and sent through some photographs he had taken. Sighting Details On 12th March 2010 at around 4.10pm in the afternoon, witness “PJ” was near the entrance of Dudley Castle with his girlfriend taking a look at the meerkats in the zoo area. It was a cold and cloudy day. PJ noticed that the meerkats were acting strangely, making noises and all looking up into the sky. He looked up to see what they were looking at and noticed a unevenly-shaped black object. It was almost directly overhead and appeared to be quite high up. Dudley Castle is one of the highest points of the West Midlands, and it was at much higher altitude, so PJ is not sure it would even have been seen from normal ground level. He estimates it was about the size of a car, though this was hard to judge. It initially appeared to be stationary but then slowly began moving to the left. Aerial view of Dudley Castle showing location of meerkats enclosure: 📷 After 10 seconds, PJ decided to take some photographs of the object. As they watched, the object began to rise in altitude. They continued to watch it for about 5 minutes until it had disappeared out of sight. Neither of them had any idea as to what the object could have been, it looked completely different to anything they had seen before. The Photographs The photos were taken on a Canon 500d camera with Sigma 300mm lens. Below is one of the original photographs: 📷 A collection of close ups of the object taken from the various photographs: 📷 Zoomed views of the object taken from several of the photos (in order): 📷 📷 📷 Same zoomed views of the object with edge find: 📷 📷 📷 Sighting Analysis The object that PJ and his girlfriend saw was certainly interesting. It is clearly black or dark in colour, with curved edges. When I first saw the photos I thought it may have been a home-made solar airship made out of one or more black bin bags. These heat up in the sun, and once the air inside them is hot enough rise into the sky. However it could not have been one of these because it was cloudy and cold weather. I feel the most likely explanation for the object was a black or dark coloured Chinese lantern that had been set off in the daytime. Because it was still light, it is probable that the flame within it could not be seen from the ground, and would not cause the object to glow. I am certain of this as I have seen lanterns lit in daylight before first hand. From the inital zoomed view of the object, a flat edge can be seen at the lower left. The shape of the object is that of a Chinese lantern, with the flat base widening out into a rounded balloon-like shape. I believe the object was tilting, probably due to air currents. In the first photo it can be seen at a heavy tilt, revealing the flat base edge. The second zoom shows the object more at a diagonal, and the third with it upright, and smaller as it is gaining in altitude. Case solved? Maybe, but I do find it interesting that the meerkats appeared to be aware of the presence of the object and acting unusually towards it. If it was simply a lantern or balloon, surely they would have ignored it? This aspect will continue to bring a bit of mystery to this particular sighting. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2010
- 1999-2003 - Erdington - Flying Triangle Landing
Birmingham UFO Group Report Author: Dave Hodrien Release Date: 01/04/2010 For reasons of anonymity pseudonyms have been used Introduction Craft referred to as Flying Triangles have been seen many times over the last couple of decades. There have been waves of sightings reported in numerous countries around the world. In many of these sightings, including some which I have previously looked into, the craft are only seen at a distance. However this report covers a stunning case where a Flying Triangle was seen at extremely close proximity by two witnesses. The incident contains many aspects, some of which suggest that more than just a sighting may have taken place. As well as the main sighting, the report also covers a number of other incidents, including a possible second sighting of the same craft. Background The witnesses, Carl and Simon, were living on Holly Lane in Erdington, Birmingham, at the time of the incident. Running alongside part of Holly Lane is an area of wasteland referred to as “the tip”. Map of sighting location: 📷 Many years ago the area used to be brickworks, but was then levelled and covered in grass. There was a number of dirt paths across the area, and people would often use the area for walking their dogs. Today the tip is heavily overgrown so it is much rarer to see people crossing it. Carl had a pet dog named Champ which he would walk numerous times a day on the tip. At the time of the incident, both Carl and Simon smoked. Simon’s parents were not aware of this fact, so to keep things this way they used to take Champ for a walk as an excuse for having a cigarette. They would sometimes do this very late at night. It was under these circumstances that they were out of their houses on the night of the incident. Photograph of the tip as it appears today: 📷 Sighting Details Carl cannot remember the exact year which the sighting took place (for a very valid reason which will be explained later). He says he must have been between the age of 21 and 25, which would mean the incident took place between 1999-2003. He believes it took place between 11pm-1am. It was a warm, still and clear night. Due to the weather conditions we may assume the incident took place in spring/summer, though this is not known for definite. Carl and Simon were outside with the dog. Carl doesn’t remember whether they had walked Champ over the tip or not, but he assumes they must have. His first recollection of the incident is of him and Simon standing on the corner of the junction between Holly Lane and Holly Dale Road. Carl and Simon suddenly noticed some lights in the sky above the trees at the far side of the tip to the East. There were three lights in a triangular shape. Carl remembers them being red in colour. At first both witnesses assumed it was an aeroplane. Bu as they watched, the lights began to move from side to side a short distance. The movement looked erratic rather than smooth, as though the lights were shimmering left and right. The object was moving in a slow speed in their general direction. Photograph of the tip from where the witnesses were standing in the direction which the UFO was first sighted: 📷 Drawing by Carl of how the UFO looked at a distance: 📷 As the object got closer, they could make out a black triangular shaped body around the lights, and it became clear that it was a single solid object – a craft unlike any known conventional aircraft. They also now noticed a central larger light on the underside of the craft evenly spaced between the red lights. Carl believes this was either a white or yellow colour. The witnesses stood in amazement as the craft approached their location. They realised it was completely silent and had no visible means of propulsion. As it got close to the road, the craft began to descend in altitude. At this point, Carl says the lights may have changed to an orange/golden colour. The witnesses began to get un-nerved by the proximity of the craft, and crossed Holly Dale Road to the opposite corner. Champ stood motionless by their side. Aerial photograph of sighting location with position of witnesses marked: 📷 The craft reached the edge of the tip and continued to slowly descend until it was hovering over the road, about ten feet off the ground. It then slowly turned until one of its points (Carl assumes the front) was facing them. At this point they realised that it was aware of their presence. They were about 40 feet from the craft, and due to street lighting could had a clear view of it. Carl says the craft was about 25 feet wide by 10-15 feet in depth. There were no visible markings or openings on it at all, it was simply a jet black triangular shape, with a flat base and angles converging to a point at its top. The corner lights were still visible even when it was down low over the road, although the central light could no longer be seen. This perhaps mans that the corner lights were jutting out from the main body of the craft or wrapped around the corners. Or perhaps they were so bright that their glow could still be made out. Carl says that they were within a stone’s throw of the craft, and if it had been a car they would have been able to give the make, model and registration number – it was that close to their position. Drawing by Carl of how the craft looked up close: 📷 Drawing by Carl of light configuration on underside of craft: 📷 Photograph of the stretch of road that the craft hovered over, with a drawing of how it looked added on top: 📷 As the craft halted over the road, it began to make strange sounds. Only Carl remembers it making these sounds, Simon does not remember it making any sound at all for the duration of the sighting. Carl describes the sounds as a deep pulsing humming noise similar to the sound of a didgeridoo. This noise continuously altered in pitch and tempo. Thinking back to the incident, Carl realised that he recognised the sounds and had heard them at other times (see later). The witnesses stood still and stared at the craft for what seemed like a couple of minutes. Carl feels that the experience was very personal, and that it was aware of them as they were watching it. Both him and Simon were awestruck by the craft, and at no point thought about knocking on any of the house doors to get anyone else. Neither of them had a camera, and back when the incident took place mobile phone cameras were relatively new. Carl cannot remember whether his phone had a camera on it or not, but even if it did he did not think about using it at all. Suddenly Champ bolted, and ran back across Holly Dale Road past the craft towards Carl’s house. Carl was very reluctant to follow as this would mean getting uncomfortably close to the craft. Soon after this happened, the craft began moving again without warning. It began to rise in altitude at a diagonal angle until it was directly over the roof of Carl’s house. It was literally a few feet over the chimney top. Here it once again stopped moving, and remained stationary for at least a minute. Photograph of the house over which the craft hovered: 📷 After this it started moving again to the West, and was lost from view behind the house. Behind the houses is a garden allotment area, and it was in this direction that the craft was heading. The witnesses ran down Holly Dale Road to where they could get a clear view of the area. But when they checked they found that the craft had completely vanished. Carl is not sure if it had flown away extremely fast, or if it had just flown somewhere else out of sight, but it was gone. Photograph showing witness view of the garden allotment area from Holly Dale Road: 📷 Aerial map showing the complete route the craft took during the sighting: 📷 Forgotten Experiences After this, Carl cannot remember anything that happened. He assumes that they must have both walked back home and gone to bed. The following morning, both witnesses had completely forgotten the entire incident had taken place. They met up later in the day but had no recollection of it and did not discuss it with each other at all. They continued to regularly walk the dog over the tip but never once thought about what they had seen or experienced any unusual emotions. On a number of occasions after the incident when Carl approached the tip with Champ, suddenly Champ would drop to the ground, start whimpering, and refuse to go any closer. Carl never understood this behaviour, but looking back it seems probable that Champ either remembered or sensed what had taken place, and was frightened to go where the craft had initially been located. It was only when Carl and his family moved out of the house on Holly Lane a number of years later that the incident came back to him. He is not sure of how this recollection happened, but he came to the realisation that him and Simon had seen the craft and had then forgotten all about it. He got in touch with Simon and reminded him of the incident, and then he too remembered what had happened. Other Encounters? When Carl remembered the strange sounds the craft had been making while it was over the road, he realised that they were familiar to him and that he had heard them at other times too. He recalled a number of times where he had been in his bedroom on his own and heard the noises. On some of these occasions he feels his girlfriend should have also been in the room but he doesn’t remember ever seeing her there. Sometimes he had been lying down in bed at night, other times he was sitting on his bed during the day. The sounds would resonate through him and make his body vibrate. He also remembers that these sounds would lull his senses and put him into a confused state of mind. Carl says he is a very nosy person, and would almost certainly have checked to see where the noises were coming from, but he never did this and just remained still, listening to the sounds. He finds this very strange indeed. As he had forgotten the incident with the craft for a number of years, Carl is unsure whether these other incidents occurred prior to or after the sighting. He feels that he must have been visited by the same craft at other times, but has no other memories of these events. He is not aware of whether there was any missing time involved, however as some of these experiences occurred at night-time, if there was missing time it is unlikely he would have known. A Second Sighting On an evening in September 2009 around 7pm, Carl was in the back garden of his house on Warwick Road, Tysley. There was nobody else at home at the time, and he was hanging out some clothes to dry. He happened to glance up into the sky, looking to the North towards Birmingham centre. He noticed what appeared to be three red lights in a triangular pattern, hovering stationary in the sky. They were quite distant, but he immediately became un-nerved by the lights and assumed that they may be the same triangular craft. Aerial map showing location of sighting: 📷 He only watched them for a few seconds, before deciding to head outside the front of the house onto the pavement where there would be other people around. This made him feel a lot less venerable. When he again checked for the lights he could no longer see them and assumed they were now hidden out of sight behind the housing. Satisfied that the lights had not got any closer, he remained outside for a minute before heading back indoors. Carl cannot be certain this was another sighting of the same craft, but feels that it may have been. Other UFO Sightings Carl has had two other UFO sightings in his life. Several years ago he used to work at Land Rover in Solihull. He would often go for a break outside with his work colleagues. One clear night they were looking up at a star-filled sky. Suddenly they all noticed three or four white lights appear. They looked liked stars and appeared to be at very high altitude. They were not in an organised formation, but were cluttered around one another and completely motionless. Several seconds went by, then suddenly another white light appeared close to the other lights, and then moved at a very fast speed between them. They then all vanished simultaneously. On another occasion after the Flying Triangle incident (Carl cannot remember when exactly), Carl witnessed three white lights in a line. The middle one suddenly began moving. It appeared to drop down below the other two, then went into reverse and moved back up. Carl feels that these sightings were completely unrelated to his experience with the triangular craft, and does not feel that there were in any way personal to him, he was just at the right place at the right time. Sighting Analysis Carl certainly appears to be speaking about a real experience, and I fully believe that he is telling the truth about what him and Simon saw. I have visited the sighting location with him on a number of occasions, and asked him to repeat the story of what happened numerous times. He is fascinated by what he has experienced, and because of the sighting has become very interested in the subject of UFOs. There are realistically only three explanations for what took place. Either it was a very clever hoax, a secret military craft of some kind, or it was extraterrestrial in origin. The object seemed much too large to be a hoax, and it seems very unlikely that someone would be able to make a model of such a size with a completely invisible and silent means of propulsion. Carl says that it looked solid rather than flimsy and hollow, so I do not believe for one moment that it was some kind of remote controlled model or inflatable. There is the possibility it was a secret military craft of some kind, but again this seems unlikely for a number of reasons. If it was, why would they fly it right over one of the most populated cities in the UK, let alone descend closely to multiple witnesses. There would seem no reason for doing this, nor for the strange sounds that only Carl heard being emitted from the craft. The craft displayed highly advanced flight capabilities. It was able to hover and move silently, descend and take off slowly, and also appeared to vanish without trace. These are characteristic of many sightings of UFOs, not just Flying Triangles but of other types such as discs and saucer-shaped craft. Despite this, Carl believes that it was more likely to be military than alien. You may feel the same, but I believe that this was a genuine Flying Triangle sighting, and that many if not all of these craft are extraterrestrial in origin. It is possible that the military have built their own based on alien technology, but in this case I feel it was not one of these for the reasons described above. Flying Triangles vary in size – there have been some sightings of craft larger than a football field! In the 1990s there was a wave of sightings of craft of this type in Belgium, during which the craft were even seen to move around under the water and emerge from the sea. There are also a number of sightings where Grey-type entities have been seen next to landed Flying Triangles, which may well mean that they are linked with this particular species of ET. Possibility Of Contact There are a number of signs that suggest that Carl may be a contactee, one who is currently mostly unaware of this contact. The triangular craft that him and Simon witnessed certainly seemed to be interested in them in some way. Not only did it descend to the road, but it also turned towards them. I do not believe these movement patterns were just coincidence. It looks as though it approached their position for a reason. It then began to make highly unusual sounds, sounds only Carl remembers hearing. Could these have been some form of communication directed personally at him? If so it is possible the craft was there to interact with Carl, and the fact that another witness was present could have been regardless. Thinking back to the incident, Carl remembers hearing the sounds on a number of other occasions while in his bedroom. He also remembers the sounds putting him into a drowsy/confused state of mind. The sounds made his whole body vibrate. All of these aspects I find very interesting indeed. The fact that he had heard the noises at other times suggests that he has been visited by the craft (either the same or of similar type) either before or after the sighting incident. Many contactees, including others I have personally investigated, have reported hearing strange sounds such as pulsing humming noises, beeps and clicks. Vibrations that pass through the body are also commonly reported, sometimes though not always accompanied by paralysis. These events appear to be signs that a contact experience is taking place or about to happen. The noises that Carl has heard both during the sighting and at other times, may well have preceded other events which he is currently completely unaware of. The fact that the sighting of the craft was forgotten about by both the witnesses for a number of years is also extremely interesting. In most cases when a UFO is witnessed, even at close proximity, the individuals involved fully remember the incident and can describe it in detail. However repressed memories are extremely common in cases involving contact. Missing time can be an indication of this, in other cases flashbacks or nightmares can reveal some details of what has taken place. Both witnesses had no recollection of the event, even when they revisited the location of the incident many times afterwards. Years later when Carl did remember, and then reminded Simon too, memories of what had taken place came flooding back. But something more may have taken place, something which still remains blocked out. The sighting of the red lights in September 2009, could be another indication that Carl has been visited by the craft since the incident. There is no indication that the craft approached or interacted with him in this instance, but this does not mean that it definitely did not take place. Another intriguing possibility suggested by Carl is that his girlfriend or another family member may be a contactee rather than himself. It is interesting that the craft hovered directly over his house before moving away from the area, even though Carl was down on the street corner. Also he mentions that during the other incidents where he heard the sounds, his girlfriend should have sometimes been present, but he does not remember ever seeing her. Could these sounds have been used to lull him while she was being taken and experiencing contact instead? As you have probably noticed, I have not yet had a chance to meet up with Simon to hear his version of the events of the night. I hope to meet him soon to get his side of the story, which I am sure will be quite similar to Carl’s, other than the fact that he did not hear any sounds coming from the craft. Attempted Regression On Sunday 21st March, Carl was regressed around my house by hypnotherapist Rob Tudge, who assists me with investigations involving contact. However due to anxiety or state of mind, Carl could sadly not be hypnotised. He went over the incident again, but was remembering consciously and simply closing his eyes rather than being properly under. He hopes to try again after a short while, as he sincerely wishes to know if anything else took place during this incident. Conclusion This is an absolutely stunning close encounter with a craft likely to be extraterrestrial in origin, and one of the best we have yet had reported to the group. The type of craft seen, with the corner lights and larger central light, has been seen many times before all around the world, though not usually at such close proximity. There are many mysterious aspects to the sighting which we have yet to find an answer for. Why did it approach the witnesses? Why did it make strange sounds that only Carl could hear? Why did it hover over the roof of his house? Why did both witnesses forget the incident afterwards? In time we may find out answers to these questions. Perhaps Carl and Simon will learn more about what they experienced, either through future regressions or by other means. But whether they do or not, this remains a fascinating sighting and one which defies most alternative explanations. This report will be updated with any additional information as and when it becomes available. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2010
- 06/04/2010 - Oldbury - Orange Diamond UFO Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Release Date: 07/04/2010 Sighting Details At 11pm on the evening of 6th April 2010, Brian (name changed for privacy reasons) had just left his girlfriends house. He was on the corner between Warley Road and St Johns Road in Oldbury, Birmingham and was walking home. It was a quiet evening, with light cloud cover obscuring the stars from view. It was still and the temperature was mild. Aerial map showing location of sighting: 📷 Brian’s attention was suddenly drawn to a glowing light in the sky. He looked to the source of the light, and saw a glowing orange light. It was moving towards him from the South South West at about the same speed a plane would fly at. It appeared to be quite high, at least several hundred feet, but was below the cloud layer. At first he assumed it was a plane, and so merely glanced at the object before continuing his walk. He walked a short distance along St Johns Road. He looked up again into the sky. The object was now a lot closer and he could see it definitely was not a conventional aircraft of any kind. The object was diamond shaped and glowing an orange-red colour. There were no visible markings but its straight edges were clearly visible. It was hard to judge its exact size but considering it looked to be at significant altitude, it must have been quite large. Not only was it a lot closer but it was also now stationary in the sky, and completely silent. It appeared to be within a mile of his position. Brian stared at the object for a few seconds wondering what it could be. Suddenly the object appeared to duplicate into two vertically. It did this within a couple of seconds. He could now see two diamond-shaped objects, one above the other. The upper object then massively picked up speed and flew right across the sky in the direction of West Bromwich to the North North East. The remaining object then began moving away back the way it had come from, and at the same time descending in the sky. Brian continued to watch it until it vanished behind some trees in the direction of Barnford Hill. He was absolutely convinced that he had seen something out of the ordinary that could not be easily explained, and also feels that someone else must have also seen what had taken place as it was very visible in the night sky. Sighting Analysis This is a very interesting sighting indeed. Often orange/red coloured lights seen in the sky at night turn out to probably be sightings of Chinese lanterns, but there are a number of aspects to this case that certainly suggest otherwise. The shape of the object suggests a solid structure – lanterns are usually rounded or cylindrical in shape. The fact that the object appeared to duplicate into two (not split in half), and the movement patterns throughout the incident, especially the incredibly fast acceleration of one of the objects, means that many of the usual explanations can be discounted. It appears that the objects were under intelligent control. The object which moved away from the location very rapidly moved too fast for it to have been merely drifting in a sudden gust of wind – it covered the entire sky in a couple of seconds and was soon out of sight in the distance. It seems very unlikely that a remote controlled model of some kind would be responsible – the duplication into two would be very hard to do convincingly, and again the acceleration and speed of the 1st object was much too fast. Obviously the incident cannot have been down to meteorites, as the initial object had stopped moving before it duplicated into two. It is interesting to consider what happened to the remaining object. The witness was certain that it was descending in altitude as it moved away. Although he lost sight of the object before it reached ground level, perhaps it did land somewhere in the distance away from him, either intentionally or unintentionally. Although there were no markings or visible propulsion which would suggest the objects seen were craft of some kind, their movement patterns certainly point towards this possibility. If you feel you may have also seen one or both of the objects, please get in touch with me. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2010
- 09/04/2010 - Burton-Upon-Trent - Orange Orbs Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Release Date: 10/04/2010 Sighting Details It was 8.50pm on the evening of 9th April 2010. David was driving home from his local gym in Burton-Upon-Trent. It was a clear evening and the sun had just set. He was almost home and driving along Derby Road when he suddenly noticed two glowing orange orbs over the Pirelli Football Stadium to the West of him. They appeared to be between 700-800 feet high and were constantly bright. As he watched, one of the lights suddenly vanished. Aerial map of sighting location showing location of Pirelli Stadium: 📷 He arrived home just South of the stadium. Getting out of his car, he walked 5 yards to get a look at the remaining light. It was still present, and appeared to be hovering motionless and silent in the sky. After a couple of minutes, like the first light, it too suddenly vanished. The lights looked very similar to others he had seen on the 4th April in West Yorkshire. Sighting Analysis This particular incident shows all the signs associated with a sighting of Chinese lanterns, and I feel it was probably these that were responsible. Lanterns appear as glowing orange orbs of light, which sometimes remain constantly bright and sometimes flicker. When the flame inside them burns out they appear to dim and vanish without trace, as after dark the lantern itself will not be seen falling to the ground. The lights Dave saw showed no sign of being under intelligent control; they simply hovered in the sky and then vanished. It was a clear night, so there was no wind which could have caused them to drift. They may well have been slowly gaining altitude, but at a distance this may not have been visible. Not all orange lights seen in the night sky can be explained away as lanterns, but those seen here more than likely can be. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2010
- October 2000 - 11/04/2010 - Flying Triangle & Disc Sightings, Cigar UFO Photograph
Birmingham UFO Group Report Author: Dave Hodrien Last Updated: 12/12/2010 Over the years Bob Mortlock and his wife Debbie from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, have had numerous sightings and taken numerous photographs of UFOs. This report will cover each incident seperately in detail. October 2000 Black Triangle UFO Sighting Back in 2000 Bob and Debbie were living at a house in Harlow, Essex. On a Sunday in the October of that year, they went to a car boot sale being held on Barrows Road. It was a bright day with scattered cloud and was quite windy. Harlow is on the direct flight path for planes landing at Stanstead Airport to the North East. At 1.00pm in the afternoon, Bob noticed a 747 jumbo jet on its approach from the South West at an altitude of about 5000 feet. As he watched it get closer, he suddenly became aware of a second object on the same flight path at the jet, approximately half a mile behind it. The object looked like a black coloured equilateral triangle. It had no protrubences or undercarriage, and looked about the same with as the jet but not as deep. On its underside was a square marking which was brown in colour, but other than this no further details could be seen. Aerial map showing location of Barrows Road: 📷 Aerial map showing sighting location in relation to Stanstead Airport: 📷 He immediately stopped watching the jet and concentrated on the unusual triangular object instead. When it got to about half a mile from his position, it suddenly stopped and turned 90 degrees on its axis to the left. It then continued moving at the same speed it had been to the North West in the direction of Ware, flying against the wind. It was completely silent. After a short while it vanished into some cloud, and did not reappear. Witness sketch of the triangle from underneath: 📷 Bob felt that the object was a craft of non-human origin, due to the impressive manouvering capabilities displayed. He has been interested in aviation since an early age and was convinced it was not a conventional aircraft of any kind. He feels that if it was a secret military craft they would not have been flying it in broad daylight in such close proximity to other aircraft. The normal seperation distance between aircraft is at least 2 miles, but the triangle was only half a mile behind the plane. This is certainly a very interesting sighting and the most convincing Bob has had. Black flying triangle craft have been seen many times before all around the world, especially over the last couple of decades. I have personally investigated a number of cases involving very similar craft, although the brown square on the underside of the object is not regularly reported. It may have possibly had lights but because it was the middle of the day they could have been switched off, or hard to make out in the daylight. The object sounds too large to have been a model, and it appeared to be under intelligent control, following along after the jet before suddenly turning and then continuing on a level flight path. As it was the middle of the day, there may have been other witnesses to this object, but Bob is unaware if anyone else at the car boot sale saw it. Bob is planning to send me a drawing of the triangular object, once I receive it I will add it to this section of the report. July 2006 RAF Fairford Airshow Disc UFO Photograph In July 2006, Bob and Debbie were staying on Totterdown Farm camping site just to the West of Gloucester. The campsite is on a hill which overlooks the airfield of RAF Fairford to the South. Every year an airshow is held at RAF Fairford, and Bob would get a good view of the planes from the farm. During the airshow, Bob decided to get some photographs on his Canon EOS 350 digital camera. It was a bright sunny day with scattered cloud. Among others, he took a photograph of a Mirage 2000 fighter jet about mid-day. Aerial map showing location of Totterdown Farm and RAF Fairford: 📷 Later one when he checked through the pictures, he noticed a black dot on the picture of the Mirage jet. When he zoomed in on the picture, he realised the dot was actually a disc-shaped object in the distance. He kept the photograph on disk, but has currently not been able to track it down. He is looking for it at the moment, and if he finds it he will send me a copy to add to the report. July 2007 RAF Fairford Airshow Cigar UFO Photographs The following year, Bob was again taking photographs of the planes at the airshow from Tottendown Farm. This time there was a clear blue sky. When he checked through the photos, on several featuring an F18 jet he noticed a semi-translucent, blunt-ended cigar shapd object. This object was at a different position in relation to the jet in each photograph. In one it was near the nose, one off the port side and one near the tail. The strange shape did not appear on any other photographs taken that day so Bob does not believe it was a camera glitch or something on the lens. The three photographs containing the object (at reduced resolution): 📷 📷 📷 Zoomed view of the object (taken from the first photograph): 📷 The object is clearly semi-transparent and a long cylindrical shape with defined flattened ends. It is interesting that it is at a different angle on each photograph, this shows that it cannot have been something stuck to the lens of the camera. However I feel that it is likely to have been something tiny floating a short distance in front of the camera lens while Bob was taking the photos, such as a hair or seed casing. The fact that it is blurred while the jet is in focus supports this theory. Also if the object really was up there next to the jet at the time then lots of other people would have also captured it on their photographs, and the jet pilot may have even seen it and tried to perform evading manoeuvres. This would have almost certainly been reported either by newspaper or TV, or at least been discussed online. However to Bob's knowledge nobody else reported seeing the same object. 19th March 2010 Disc UFO Sighting A resident who lives near to Bob and Debbie recently informed them about a sighting she had on 19th March. It was about 8pm and she was in her house at the time. She looked out of the window, and to the South in the direction of Welyn Garden City she saw a bright glowing object in the shape of a dinner plate hovering in the sky. It was about 3000 feet up and was stationary. Suddenly it massively accelerated and shot off in an Easterly direction on a straight path, and vanished from sight. This is a very interesting sighting indeed. The appearance of the object and the impressive movement pattern observed clearly indicate it was something out of the ordinary. It is unlikely to have been a conventional aircraft or meteorite as it was stationary to begin with, and the massive acceleration and speed described means it is highly unlikely to have been a helicopter. It was also the wrong shape and much too fast to have been a lantern or lit inflatable. Sadly I am not able to speak with the elderly witness involved to get more details about this incident as she is very reclusive. If she tells Bob and Debbie any further information about it, they will be added to this report. 11th Apil 2010 Yellow Light Sighting Around 8.30pm on the evening of 11th April 2010, Bob and Debbie were in the residents lounge in the building where they live. Looking out of the window they saw a very bright yellow-orange ligh in the sky to the West, in the direction of Hitchin. It was as bright as a fog light, and more yellowish than an amber street light. It was completely stationary and appeared to be about 3 miles away. After a couple of minutes it suddenly vanished without trace. Bob was sure that the object had not simply been hidden behind cloud. He feels is was not a Chinese lantern because it did not move at all, lanterns usually drift across the sky or slowly gain in altitude. Aerial map of sighting location: 📷 The object was unlikely to have been a helicopter, or plane flying towards his location, because these do not suddenly turn their lights out. Also there was a flying ban at the time due to ash clouds caused by a volcanic eruption in Iceland. Despite Bob’s feelings about the sighting, this may well have been a lantern. The colour and appearance of the object tends to support this theory. It may have been moving slowly but this movement not visible due to the distance. The fact that it suddenly vanished could have been the flame inside it dying out. As it was simply a light that was on and then switched off, I cannot say either way for definate. Conclusion As you can see, Bob and Debbie have had a number of interesting sightings. It seems unlikely that these incidents were linked in any way, it is more probable they were just at the right place at the right time to experience them. The black triangle sighting was especially interesting, and seems to have been of unusual craft of some kind, possibly of extraterrestrial origin. It is a shame that Bob has been unable to locate all the UFO photographs he has taken, but if he finds them they will be added to this report. Because of what he has personally witnessed, and stories he has heard off other people, Bob certainly believes in the reality of UFOs. If him or Debbie have any more sightings he says he will keep me informed. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2010
- 13/04/2010 - Hall Green - Orange Orbs Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Release Date: 17/04/2010 For reasons of anonymity pseudonyms have been used Sighting Details It was 9.40pm on the evening of 13th April 2010. On Creswell Road in Hall Green, Phil headed outside to lock the front gates of his house. It was a clear night with no wind, and the stars visible in the sky. Looking to the North East East in the direction of Birmingham airport, he saw two orange round balls of light. They appeared to be at high altitude and moving at over 100mph. They were side by side and looked to be quite close to each other. As the objects got nearer, Phil decided to run into the house and get his wife Emily. They headed back outside to see what was happening. Aerial map showing location of Creswell Road: 📷 By now the objects were almost overhead. They looked to be quite large in size and were glowing a fiery orange. Emily estimates they were about the same size as a metro. The witnesses noted they were completely silent. The orbs passed overhead and continued on a straight course to the South West West. Emily was so amazed at what she was seeing, it brought a tear to her eye. Shortly aferwards, one of the orbs flashed a few times and then went out. They could still make out a rounded object against the night sky due to the proximity, which continued on the same path it had been taking. A few seconds the second orb which also vanished. The whole sighting lasted for a couple of minutes. Sighting Analysis Often a sighting such as this would be put down to Chinese lanterns. Many of the aspects of the sighting at first appear to fit in with this expalanation - the colour and shape of the objects, the straight flight path and lack of obvious intelligent manouvres, the fact that they suddenly went out/vanished. The objects were clearly too slow to be meteorites, and are highly unlikely to have been earth lights, as these are not seen over urban areas and do not last for very long. But Emily does not believe that they were lanterns. She informed me she has seen lanterns on numerous occassions before, but these objects were different in a number of ways. She says that the lanterns she has seen before looked like orange candle light with a bright centre and hazy outline, and also flickered. These objects were like huge bright balls of fire, almost like meteorites but with no trail behind them. They were constantly bright. She believes the objects were moving much too fast for lanterns. When Phil ran into the house to get her the orbs looked quite far away, but by the time theyd headed outside they were almost right overhead. Also their path looked very controlled, the lanterns she had seen previously had more random drift to them. These orbs maintained course and positioning to each other throughout the sighting. On the other hand, perhaps these objects were a different kind of lantern to her previous sightings. At night time it is very hard to judge distance, and therefore size and speed, accurately as there is no point of reference. Could the objects have been much closer and much smaller than how they appeared to be? Even though it was still at ground level, perhaps they were caught in a strong air current which could have been responsible for the very straight flight path of the objects. Another possibility is that the two objects were linked in some way (for example by a string), and this link was unable to be seen against the night sky. If there is a normal explanation for the objects, it is more than likely to be Chinese lanterns, but it is still interesting that Emily feels they were something else after seeing lanterns many times before. - Spring 1981 - Mobile, Alabama - Glowing White Sphere UFO Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Last Updated: 06/05/2010 Introduction Linda Richardson is 62 years old and lives near Pascagoula MS. Back in 1981, she and her son Anthony lived out in the county of Mobile, Alabama. Their house was about 2 miles along Dick Ship Road (later renamed to John Shinn Road), a dirt track leading off Georgetown – Chunchula Road, which in turn ran off State Highway 45. The family owned about 5 acres of land around the house. In early spring of that year, they and Anthony’s friend Tony had an astounding encounter with a strange aerial object. Map showing location of John Shinn Road in relation to State Highway 45: 📷 Aerial map of John Shinn Road, showing the amount of woodland in the area: 📷 Sighting Details It was about 8pm in the evening, and Linda was cleaning her kitchen. The family owned a horse named Timmy and a small calf named Charley. Both the animals started to make noises like they were distressed at something. Anthony and Tony decided to head outside and see what was causing the animals to be upset, expecting to see a wild animal of some kind. They headed through the kitchen and went outside, leaving the back door open. A few minutes later Linda heard her son call her, saying “Mama come here, look at this!” Linda went outside to see what was going on. It was a calm clear night, and there were no clouds. The stars were fully visible. The boys were staring up into the sky at something. She looked up, and almost fainted at what she saw. Almost right overhead hanging in the sky was a large glowing white sphere. It was about 500-600 feet above them and completely motionless. Her first thought was “Gosh, there’s something wrong with the moon, it’s too close to Earth!” She noted that it had no different shades on it, it was bright white all over. It was totally silent as it hovered above them. Linda’s emotions were a mix of fear and awe. She felt defenseless, and that she had no way of protecting her son from whatever it was. Drawing of UFO based on witness description: 📷 After several minutes, without warning, the object began to move. It was only now that Linda realised it couldn’t possibly be the moon but was a hovering object of some kind. It started slowly then began to build up in speed, moving off to the South and slowly gaining in altitude. The object moved over the roof of the house and was lost from sight. Linda and the boys ran through to the front porch to continue watching it. A number of dull red coloured lights were now visible low down on the rear of the object. Linda cannot remember how many there were or what configuration they were in. Her initial fear was now replaced with a desire to protect her son. She grabbed a broom from inside the front door. She put her hand on Anthony’s shoulder and said to him and Tony that whatever the object was is was not going to get them. Suddenly the object dramatically increased in acceleration and shot away to the South. It did this in complete silence and was lost from sight in a split second. Linda compares the speed to that of a bullet being fired from a gun. It was truly breath-taking to watch. The witnesses were left there on the front porch, astounded at what they had just seen. They discussed the object for a long time, wondering what it could have been. Modern photograph of John Shinn Road: 📷 After a while, Linda decided to phone her next door neighbour Betty. It turned out that she too had witnessed the object. She had seen the light from it coming into her house, and wondering where it was coming from had gone out to her porch to take a look. She was very scared by the presence of the object. Later Linda decided to contact the Air Force to see if they were aware of the UFO (She first called the local Coast Guard to get the number). When she rang she was not aware of which Air Force base she was in touch with. She spoke with a man who identified himself as an officer. Linda does not remember if he gave his name or not. She started to relate to him about what had taken place. The man said that the object they had seen was probably a weather balloon. Linda said that her uncle was a meteorologist and that she was well versed in what weather balloons look like and are capable of. She did not buy his explanation at all. The man seemed uninterested, as if she was wasting his time. He reluctantly listened for several minutes but provided no satisfactory explanation. She was not aware whether the call was recorded or written down. In the morning, the mailman George called at their house. George was on friendly terms with many of the residents in the area. When Linda informed him about what she had seen, George said that he too had seen the object, as had other people in the neighbourhood. Despite the multiple witnesses to the incident, there was no newspaper article written about the UFO, Linda feels that they may have been told not to because of the fear it would have caused. Or perhaps nobody decided to inform the local paper so they were unaware that it had taken place. For a while after the incident, the witnesses had trouble sleeping. Linda got her husband to load up every gun in the house. Neither her, the boys or her neighbour Betty would go out at night-time for fear of the object returning. Every night up until Linda and Anthony moved to North Alabama, they would watch the skies and ask God to protect them. Linda thought about the object often, wondering about the answers to her many questions – What was it doing there? Did it have occupants? Was it friend or foe? Would she ever see it again? Prior to the sighting Linda had no interest in the UFO subject, but ever since has regularly watched the skies. Linda feels that the officer she spoke to at the Air Force knew about the object, and was covering up information. A few months after the incident, a staggeringly bright flash of light was seen by many people from Bay Minette to Citronelle. Apparently local news stations were alerted but a cover up on the story took place, in which the Air Force were involved. Word got out that a UFO had crashed somewhere near the Bay Minette area. Linda wondered if it was the same object she had seen. Sadly she has no further information on this incident, and as it happened so long ago I have not been able to find any details of it online. Testimonial Witness Statement “I, Linda Richardson, living in the Georgetown - Chunchula AL. area at the time of the sighting of the UFO do testify this is the truth.” Sighting Analysis This is a stunning sighting and very hard to explain in conventional terms due to the movement the witnesses saw the UFO perform. The object obviously could not have been a weather balloon or other inflatable. It was a still night, but even in windy conditions a freely drifting object would not have performed the manouvres seen. These manouvres certainly appeared controlled, with the object hovering completely still for an amount of time before starting to move away and then suddenly flying off at an incredible speed. It was clearly not a conventional aircraft or helicopter of any kind, and is highly unlikely to have been natural phenomenon such as ball lightning. I feel that the most likely explanation in this case is that the object was a genuine craft with advanced propulsion systems, probably of extraterrestrial origin. It is interesting to wonder what the object was doing there at the time. The noises the animals were making suggest that it was already present before the boys went outside, so it is unlikely to have been there to observe the witnesses. Perhaps it was checking the animals, or something else of interest in the local area. Or maybe it was there for another unknown reason. There is no indication that it interacted in any way with any of the witnesses invovled. The fact that there were many witnesses to the event from different locations verifies that it definitely took place, and that the object was really present in the sky. Linda comes across as very level headed and genuine. She has no reason to make up the incident, and I do not believe for a moment that she is making up what took place. Sadly Anthony has since passed away, and Linda does not know the contact details for Tony, so I am unable to discuss the incident with them. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2010
- 23/04/2010 - Lighthorne - Brown Cigar UFOs Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Release Date: 15/05/2010 Sighting Details On the morning of 23rd April 2010, Company Director Carl Theakston was driving back from London to Birmingham, with a passenger named Emily Darby. It was 10.25am and they were between Junction 10 and Junction 11 of the M40 motorway, close to the village of Lighthorne, Warwick. It was a bright sunny day with clear blue skies. Map showing the approximate location of the sighting: 📷 On the left hand side of the motorway, Carl suddenly noticed what looked like five or six cigar-shaped objects in the sky to the North West. They were dull matt brown in colour. They appeared to be about half a mile away and about the size of a large car , but it was hard to judge their distance and so their actual size accurately, they may have been further away and larger. The objects were in a rough spherical formation and appeared to be at quite low altitude, about 200 metres. They were hovering completely still. He asked Emily if she too could see the objects and she verified she could. Photograph from the section of motorway where the sighting took place: 📷 Both witnesses were astonished by what they were looking at. They watched them for 10-15 seconds, then suddenly all the objects completely vanished without trace. The witnesses continued their journey and chatted were both mystified by the incident. Sighting Analysis This is an interesting and unusual sighting, and one which may well have been of something out of the ordinary. Due to the appearance and low altitude of the objects, there is a possibility that they were inflatables or balloons of some kind that were tethered into place. However it seems odd that there would be 5-6 of them. Also if the objects really did suddenly vanish as Carl said they did then this suggests they were something else entirely. The witnesses were sure that the objects really had gone and not just been hidden behind something. Obviously other explanations for the objects are quite limited. The description sounds nothing like any known conventional aircraft. The proximity of the objects to each other also puts this out of the question. So it remains an intriguing sighting. I hope to get in touch with the 2nd witness to ask for their opinion of what took place, if I succeed in doing so, this report will be updated. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2010
