- 1988 - RAF Leeming - Orange Orbs Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Originally forwarded by Richard Hall Release Date: 03/07/2011 It is not often that I get contacted by someone with a military background about something they encountered while in service. Military cases often have a certain aura of believability about them. This is due to the fact that most military personnel are trained observers and are familiar with conventional aircraft. Also they are often sworn to secrecy, meaning that they have more to lose than a normal civilian if they come forward with information. In June 2011 I was contacted by a man who used to be an airman in the Royal Air Force and was stationed at RAF Leeming. Because he was no longer in the RAF he decided it was time to come forward with information regarding a UFO which he and his unit witnessed during or around 1988, when he was 17 years old. Sighting Details It was about 10.30pm and a clear night with only light cloud. Grant (real name undisclosed) was on patrol with his Mobile Reaction Force (MRF) unit. This patrol would entail driving around the base in a Land Rover, mostly looking for IRA or undercover journalists trying to expose security breaches. They were at the South end of the runway. Suddenly one of Grants colleagues noticed two unusual flashing lights in the sky. He exclaimed "What the fuck is that?!" which of course got the attention of everyone else. The lights were yellow-orange in colour and seemed to be pulsing. They appeared to be about 30 feet apart from one another, and looked quite large in size. As it was dark it is unknown whether they were two separate objects or two lights on a single object. There were 5 people in the unit and all of them clearly saw these lights, which were completely stationary in the sky. Photograph of RAF Leeming: 📷 The lights appeared to be hovering over the Air Traffic Control tower, 3/4 of a mile North of their position, although Grant suspects this was just their own perception. They observed the lights for several minutes both from aboard and outside the Land Rover. After this they then moved to a better vantage point past the aircraft safety net. Grant's colleagues then contacted Air Traffic Control, but they said that they could not see the lights, nor was anything showing up on radar. Aerial map of RAF Leeming showing estimated location of witnesses: 📷 After the initial radio communication with Air Traffic Control, the batteries ran out. After having a cigarette they decided to drive to ATC to get some new batteries so that they could contact OiC to discuss the lights. As they drove towards ATC the lights suddenly switched off. They arrived at ATC and collected some batteries, but when they spoke with the Officer in Charge (OiC) they were informed that they must have seen a reflection in the sky of the A1 motorway or a farmers vehicle. Nobody in the tower could confirm that they had seen the lights, but Grant’s unit were all convinced of what they had witnessed. They decided to head to a bar at a local rugby club and spent the next 6 hours discussing and trying to rationalise what they had seen. They could not come up with an explanation so decided right there that they would never speak of the incident again in case it impacted negatively on their careers or status in the crew room and card school. Sighting Analysis This is a fascinating sighting because of the location, the number of witnesses ad their background. The fact that five individuals all saw the lights shows that they were clearly present in the sky. It was suggested to the witnesses that what they had seen was a reflection of the nearby motorway or a farming vehicle. However this seems very unlikely for a number of valid reasons. Firstly it was quite a clear night so there was very little cloud for anything to reflect off. The lights were completely stationary, if they had been a reflection of moving vehicles then it stands to reason that there would have been some movement detected in such a reflection. Above all though, the witnesses were not in an unusual location, this was their regular patrol route. So if the lights had been a reflection of the motorway or a farm vehicle residing in a nearby field then why would they not have been seen on many other occasions? The lights could not have been down to Chinese lanterns as these would have drifted and changed position in the 15 minutes that they were witnessed for. Also lanterns tend to flicker at random not continuously pulse as Grant described. And we must not forget that this incident happened in 1988 - back then lanterns were not widely available. They were certainly not a helicopter or other conventional aircraft. They were the wrong colour for this and the airmen would no doubt have recognised the lights as this. Also civilian aircraft were not allowed within 2 miles of the base, and if they did fly within the airspace they would have immediately been told to leave. It is a mystery why Air Traffic Control could not see the lights. They would certainly have checked directly overhead, and up in the tower had a good view of the surrounding area. Perhaps the lights were hidden from view behind something from their position. The fact that they did not show up on radar could be another sign that they were something unusual. If they really were on a single object the size of a bus this would surely have showed up, so whatever it was appears to have been radar invisible. Whatever the object was, it was odd enough to convince five airmen that it was something out of the ordinary. I would like to take this opportunity to thank “Grant” for coming forward with the details of this incident, which otherwise would probably have never been known about. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2011
- 27/05/2011 - Wiltshire - Orange Triangular UFOs Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Originally forwarded by Richard Hall Release Date: 05/07/2011 Sighting Details At about 11pm on 27th May 2011, Steve Watts witnessed something unusual in the sky from his location in Wiltshire. It was a pleasant dry evening. To the South of him a number of miles away he saw what appeared to be a triangular shaped object which was glowing a fiery yellow colour. It appeared to be about 20 feet across and moving quite fast across the sky. As he watched he then noticed two other identical objects. The three objects seemed to slowly move into a triangular formation. Steve continued to watch for half an hour during which further objects appeared and travelled in the same direction as the initial objects. He was amazed at what he was witnessing, but put the sighting down to secret military aircraft rather than ET craft. Sighting Analysis After reading the details provided by the witness I am convinced that what was experienced here was the launch of multiple triangular-shaped Chinese lanterns. Lanterns are usually cylindrical in shape and are seen as orbs of glowing amber coloured light at a distance. However they can be purchased in other shapes including triangles, and sometimes the light within them glows very intensely making them appear yellow in colour, or even white. Due to the distance the objects were observed it would have been hard to accurately predict their size or speed, so it is possible they were much smaller than they appeared. The fact that this sighting lasted for half an hour, over which many objects were seen all travelling in the same direction, fits in with it being a launch of lanterns from a celebration somewhere. Lanterns often appear to form shapes in the sky as they drift around in air currents. I am quite confident that this was the cause behind the glowing objects seen, whether or not the source of the lanterns is ever known. The witness has not got back in touch so the exact location this incident took place is currently unknown. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2011
- March 1996 – Glasgow – Flying Triangle Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Originally forwarded by Richard Hall Release Date: 06/07/2011 Sighting Details At 2.30pm on a clear sunny day in March 1996, Darren was around his grandmothers flat. The flat was on the 2nd floor of a 4 storey building. He was sitting on his bed in the room he was staying in when something suddenly caught his eye up in the sky visible through the bedroom window. He got up and went to the window to see what it was. He saw a rotating black triangular shaped object over the suburb of Kinning Park to the East. It appeared to be between 12-15 feet across and 5-6 feet in depth. It was about 100-150 feet off the ground. Aerial map of Kinning Park: 📷 The object was travelling on a straight and level course in his direction. It appeared to be moving between 40-50 mph. Darren was both amazed and frightened, and was aware that it was something very unusual. As the UFO approached it continuously rotated on a horizontal axis. The object took about 30 seconds to reach the flats. As it passed overhead he ran through to the living room window to continue observing it. He alerted his gran Rosemary, and she also came to the window. Both witnesses then watched it disappear into the distance to the West. A few minutes later a police helicopter appeared in the area West of their location. It remained for about a minute, then turned and headed North. Darren is unsure if this had anything to do with the UFO or not. Sighting Analysis The object seen in this case seems quite unusual, especially considering it was continuously rotating. Black triangular shaped craft are one of the more commonly reported UFO types, however they are rarely reported as rotating in the way that Darren describes, they tend to fly with one of the three points facing forward. We cannot completely exclude the possibility that it was a large inflatable of some kind that was drifting in an air current and tumbling on its axis, however it would be expected that it would rotate on other axis as well not just spin one direction continuously. The fact that the object flew right across the sky means that it cannot have been a tethered kite. It was clearly not a conventional aircraft of any kind. Nor did it look like any known military drone, and there would be no reason for the military to fly such a device over a highly populated city in broad daylight. The fact it took place in the day time means there were more than likely other witnesses to this object who have yet to come forward. Unfortunately Darren’s gran has since passed away, and he has not got back to me with further information on this sighting, so at present this is all we are aware of. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2011
- 27/11/2009 - Ayr - Blue Lights Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Originally forwarded by Richard Hall Release Date: 06/07/2011 Sighting Details It was 9.45pm on the 27th November 2009, Neil Simpson was on his way back home from Prestwick. It was a pleasant evening with only patchy cloud. But there was one larger white coloured cloud in the area. The cloud was low down, about 1000 feet high. Neil looked up and noticed what appeared to be blue coloured bands of light rippling through the cloud. They were in a huge circle and were slowly rotating anti-clockwise. It appeared as if they were coming from a huge aerial object hidden from sight inside the cloud. Neil estimates that each band of light was at least half a mile in length, and that the whole object, if that’s what it was, must have been at least a mile across. At first he thought the lights were from a laser projection. However as he reached a clearing where he had a good view of the high street and the surrounding area, he realised that there appeared to be no source for the lights. There was moisture in the air so he felt that if it had been a projection the beams would have been at least a little visible. But it was completely dark. Also there is an airport just 2 miles from where he was situated and he felt that they would not have been projecting lights in that area due to the proximity of this. Neil continued his walk home over the next 25 minutes, and observed the lights for the duration. As he walked through a local park he noticed 3 other people who were also staring up at the lights. After about 25 minutes, there were several white flashes of light and then the blue lights vanished. The cloud then began to hail for several minutes. After this had ceased it then drifted off to the South and slowly dissipated. Sighting Analysis Was this a huge UFO, perhaps a mother ship, hidden from view inside the cloud? This is what the witness believes was responsible for the lights. The white flashes when the lights departed and the following hail are both interesting aspects and seem to follow on from one another. However despite the points made by the witness, I feel that a laser light projection was in this case the most probable explanation. Perhaps it was from a one off celebration somewhere nearby, which is why it had never been noticed before. The fact that the lights were revolving in a circle and did not move position in the sky supports this explanation, this is how laser light displays do appear. Lights reflected off the base of the cloud can appear like a large object actually hidden within it. Also the beams are not usually seen at all, I know this from firsthand experience as there is sometimes a light display from a night club in my home town. The white flashes seen could have been the light projection being switched off. Or perhaps they had a completely separate explanation such as sheet lighting just before the hail started. It is likely that the sudden hail from the cloud shortly after the lights vanished was just a coincidence, nothing more. I have looked into similar cases before where the UFO explanation has made more sense. In these cases there have been particular reasons why I felt that a laser light projection was not a sufficient explanation. However with this particular sighting I feel that this was the most likely source of the lights. Unfortunately the witness has not got back in touch so at present this is all the information I have on the experience. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2011
- Wales Contact Case - Being, Missing Time, Psychic Abilities, Paranormal Activity
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Release Date: 13/07/2011 For reasons of anonymity pseudonyms have been used Early Thoughts Since an early age Nicola has believed in the existence of extraterrestrials and been fascinated by them. She does not know where these feelings came from, as back then she had certainly not watched any TV programs or read any books about the subject, and her parents never spoke of it either. These feelings did not appear suddenly from one day to the next, it was more a slow realisation that ETs were real and were visiting Earth. She has always believed that many different ET entities exist. She thought of them as gender-less little people. When she was a bit older and more knowledgeable, she believed that the fairies that people spoke of in folk tales were in fact extraterrestrials. She was fascinated by the idea of multiple dimensions and believed that the ETs existed in other dimensions not seen by our eyes. Nicola also sensed a connection to the stars. She used to love looking up at the night sky, even when she was as young as 5. She would often leave her bedroom window curtains open on purpose so she could see them before she went to sleep. These feelings are interesting, especially as they began when she was too young to have been heavily influenced by various forms of media. Nicola thought of the ETs as small asexual beings – it is easy to see the similarities between this description and the Greys. Her thoughts on fairies actually being ETs is also something which researchers have looked into in great depth. There are a lot of similarities between old tales of fairies and goblins and alien abductions, and some people believe them to be based on ET contact experiences. Many contactees sense a connection to the stars, probably because subconsciously they are aware where the beings they are in contact with have originated from. This feeling is particularly strong with “star children”, however at this stage there is very little evidence that Nicola would fit into this profile. Observed Another feeling that Nicola has had since a very early age is that she is being regularly observed by a presence of some kind. This feeling comes and goes, and sometimes gets worse when she on her own at night time. However she also sometimes feels it in the day. This presence seems to be all around her and she cannot pinpoint it to any one particular location. When she was younger, this feeling of being watched would frighten her. As time has gone by she has learnt to accept it and is less scared because she realises that the ETs are not hostile – if they were they would have harmed her in some way. The Silhouette When she was at primary school, Nicola would sometimes camp out in the garden in a tent with her friends. One night she had two friends over to stay and they were camping out in the front garden. About 7 feet in front of the tent was a low wall. The girls were inside the tent when they suddenly noticed the silhouette of something unusual standing on top of the wall. It looked like a small being, about 3-4 feet in height, similar to a child but with incorrect proportions. This being appeared to be standing still and staring towards the tent. The girls were understandably afraid of the unusual shadow. They quickly dashed out of the tent, and without looking back ran inside the house. They did not venture back outside until the following morning. There was no trace of the being or anything out of place. Could this have been a visitation by an ET? It is a possibility worth considering; however it could just as easily have been down to the imagination of the girls. Perhaps it was merely a cat, fox or other animal, or even a person standing by the wall for a moment. Silhouettes cast by light can often be deceiving, making distorted shadows that can seem to look like strange creatures. As the girls did not actually look at what was causing the silhouette, we will never know for certain what took place. Paranormal Activity For as long as she can remember, Nicola has often felt scared of going to bed at night. This fear has remained throughout her life, and tends to come and go. However it is far from an irrational fear. It has been brought on by a number of strange occurrences which she has witnessed. On numerous occasions between the age of 5-10, Nicola would feel her back and feet getting prodded or pressed down by an unseen force. This would always happen when she was lying down in bed before she went to sleep. When it took place she was terrified and would lie completely still and close her eyes. It felt threatening, like something was trying to get her to react. On one occasion she did look and felt sure that she saw a hand lower down the bed. She has also regularly felt her bed covers being pulled downward, like something was trying to pull them off on purpose to get at her. When this has happened she grips them very tightly to stop this from taking place. The fear caused by these incidents would sometimes become unbearable. Nicola would often check around and under the bed in the daytime. Along with this fear, there was always the sense of doubt, and she often wondered if she was imagining everything that was taking place. She felt like she couldn’t scream for someone to come and help her because she would not know what to say to them if they did. One the time when she thought she saw a hand she did call for help, and ever since it has been a running joke in her family. On one occasion when she was 9 or 10, she got so frightened she ran downstairs to her mother, who was putting up Christmas decorations. Because of these recurring incidents, Nicola developed a phobia of going to bed. She would lie down but it would take her ages to drop off to sleep. From the age of 10 these incidents seemed to cease, but the fear caused by them remained and has never really gone away. Nicola believes that an extraterrestrial presence was responsible for these occurrences. As she had not directly witnessed any ET beings, she does not really know why she feels they are responsible. Missing Time In her late primary school years, Nicola experienced two separate incidents involving missing time. On the first occasion, she had settled down to sleep and it was very dark in the room. Then all of a sudden she found herself standing in the bathroom staring at the window. It was broad daylight outside. She was very confused and wondered if an eclipse had been responsible. She could not understand how it could be dark one moment and bright the next. She tried to think back to what had taken place and was upset to find she could not remember. However looking back at the incident Nicola cannot remember what happened next either. She cannot remember leaving the bathroom or what she did. On the second occasion she found herself at her school. She was running along the school corridor in a panic. She was disorientated and did not know what time it was. It was still daylight outside. She checked in the classrooms and they were empty, so she assumed it was lunch time. However it felt too quiet and there was nobody around at all. She ran to the canteen and it too was empty. She then started running along another corridor towards the staff room. This is the last thing she can remember, she does not know what happened next. Thinking back to the incident she assumes it must have been after school closing time but before it got dark. Nicola has never spoken to her parents about these incidents as she feels she would sound crazy. Her family have never mentioned either incident to her. What occurred is intriguing, but seems unlikely to have been related to ET contact. On neither occasion was there any reason to believe that ETs might have been involved e.g. a sighting of a UFO or beings before or after. She also remembers feeling normal during and after both incidents, there were no unusual side effects such as tiredness or sickness. She cannot remember what took place directly before or after these incidents, only how she felt at the time. She did not remember them immediately, they came back to her later as memories, but she has no idea when exactly they occurred. I do wonder if these incidents were in fact down to some kind of medical condition. Nicola feels she was in good health at the time, but she has never spoken to a GP about the incidents. The initial incident could perhaps have been caused by sleep walking, although Nicola is not prone to this at all. She couldn’t have been missing for a long time such as an entire morning, as I am sure her parents would have noticed she was missing. She was still young at the time so they would surely have woken her up in the morning or been aware of her presence around the house. Perhaps it was during the summer and when she found herself in the bathroom it was actually very early morning. The second incident apparently took place during the daytime at school. It appears that she must have been running around the school after closing hours. Her parents did not used to pick her up at the end of the day, she would often hang around with her friends a while after school, so if the incident did take place at this time they may not have noticed her missing. Further Paranormal Activity In 2009, Nicola began to experience more unusual occurrences in her bedroom. These were different to what had happened when she was younger. It began with an unusual scratching sensation coming from underneath the side of the bed and mattress. Nicola took the bed apart trying to find the cause but nothing was ever found. Later in the year on several occasions she felt the bed start to vibrate. She thought it was a mobile phone that had been left on the bed by mistake, but there was never anything found which could have been responsible. As time went on this activity seemed to increase in intensity, and the whole bed would strongly vibrate or even move a short distance. After a while this activity subsided, but things did not settle down. Next came a number of occasions where she could hear what sounded like objects being moved around in the room. As it was dark she could never verify if this was taking place or not. Soon after, she began to be woken up time and time again at exactly 3.03am by electrical devices activating by their own accord. For example the alarm clock would go off even though it was not set for that time. The TV would turn on and back off by itself. It even continued to do this after the plug in the socket was switched off, which of course is theoretically impossible. When Nicola became angry and unplugged and removed all electrical devices from the room, the fire alarm downstairs went off! This activity continued for several months and then completely ceased. In August 2010, Nicola was lying in bed and suddenly felt like something was touching her on the back of the leg. There was nothing anywhere near the bed which could have been responsible. At the time she put it down to her imagination, although it sounds quite similar to the experiences she had earlier in her life. These varied experiences are very interesting, although it is hard to say whether they are down to ET contact or not. There does appear to be a link between contact and paranormal activity. Many contactees report experiencing activity similar to this in their home. It is possible that through contact the individual’s senses are heightened or awakened, and this makes it more probable that they will experience ghostly activity. Much of what Nicola speaks of sounds like a poltergeist. The electrical activity she has mentioned is especially interesting as conactees often report electrical issues or faults in their proximity. Perhaps the presence of the ETs causes electrical disruption or it is down to something which has been actually changed inside the individual. Haunted Cottage In 1983, Nicola's family moved to another property in the same area. Either in that year or the following one, during the winter months, Nicola had an encounter with what she believed was a ghost. At the time she used to share her bedroom with her two sisters. One night before dropping off to sleep, she was lying on her back with her head slightly to the left. Suddenly a luminous semi-translucent white figure appeared in front of her, several feet away. She sensed that it was feminine though this was not obvious from the figures appearance. It hovered towards her a bit, and extended its arm towards her. Nicola turned her head away so she was looking straight up, but she could still see the figure in her peripheral vision. She felt like screaming but instead just panicked and closed her eyes. After about 5 minutes she re-opened her eyes and the figure was gone. When she told her parents about what happened they did seem to believe her, as they sensed the house may be haunted when they moved there. There were other strange occurrences in the house as well as just this incident. On Nicola's first night in the house she felt constantly watched and had the strong feeling of a presence there. This feeling remained both day and night. Gradually she became ill until in the end she suffered from Peritonisis. On numerous occasions the family members would hear footsteps on the stairs. Nicola was in the bathroom one evening, and suddenly the bathroom mirror cracked in two in front of her and dropped into the sink. Activity such as this continued until the family left the house. It seems like these experiences may well have been down to ghostly activity rather than ET contact. But perhaps the reason why Nicola experienced them was because of heightened senses brought on by contact. Psychic Messages On several occasions Nicola has received messages of both things that have just happened and things that were yet to happen and then took place. When she gets these messages they appear in her mind like she is talking to herself. They are always direct with no conscious thought leading up to them. It happened for the first time between the age of 15-17. She was brushing her teeth when suddenly she got a clear message in her mind saying "Helen has just died. Helen is not here anymore". Helen was a friend of the family. About 5 hours later her best friend Laura rang up and informed her that Helen had died suddenly of an illness. She had only been ill for less than 24 hours, and had died around the time that Nicola heard the message. She felt very upset, and strangely guilty almost as if she had caused it to happen. Nicola also received a message about her gran, who was in a nursing home. Her gran was quite old and everyone felt that the end was near. In the early hours of the morning, Nicola received a message which said "Nan has just died. Don't be sad. She's had a good life". Later in the morning she found out that she had received the message several minutes after her gran had passed away. These incidents, and others I am not able to mention for privacy reasons, are yet more evidence suggesting that Nicola has heightened senses. Many contactees report having psychic abilities such as premonitions. So there is the possibility that she has received these through ET contact, either intentionally or as a side effect. Conclusion As you can see, Nicola has had many unusual experiences. It is hard to say whether they are really down to ET contact or not. She has not had any definite experiences/sightings of craft or beings. But the feelings and thoughts she has had since an early age are very intriguing and I do wonder if some of her experiences have been related to contact in some way. The incident with her glowing hands, unusual electrical activity in her home, feeling of being observed and the psychic messages she has received are of particular interest. Perhaps in time Nicola will come to understand whether these incidents really are related to an extraterrestrial presence in her life or not. If she does have any further relevant experiences which she tells me about, they will be added to this report. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2010
- October 1951 & Autumn 1994/95 - Gillingham & Burnley - Silver Oval UFO Sightings
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Originally forwarded by Richard Hall Release Date: 25/07/2011 In July 2011 Janice got in touch with me via Richplanet.net to provide details of two UFO sightings she has had – once when she was quite young and a second sighting she has had in the mid 90s. The most interesting thing is that both of these sightings appeared to be of a similar object performing similar manoeuvres. 1951 – The First Sighting Janice’s first UFO sighting occurred in the second week of October 1951 when she was only 5 years old. It was mid-day and sadly the day of her father’s funeral. She was sitting on the steps of her neighbour’s house on Sturdee Avenue, Gillingham, Kent alongside her 14 year old neighbour who was comforting her. The weather was very clear and sunny. Aerial map of Sturdee Avenue showing the position of the witnesses: 📷 Glancing up into the sky to the North the girls noticed an object at high altitude. It appeared to be oval or lozenge shaped and was a dull silver colour. It appeared to be very large in size. Unlike most normal aircraft which travelled across the sky on a straight path, this object travelled in an arc and left no trail behind it. It moved in a Southerly direction. Modern photograph of sighting location in the direction the UFO was seen: 📷 Witness drawing showing the UFO, its movement path and the position of her and her neighbour: 📷 Janice remembers watching it for between 5-10 minutes until it had vanished out of sight. Due to the distance it was hard to judge how fast it was moving at. Even though she was only young, she remembers the incident in quite good detail, especially considering the day it occurred on. She does not remember telling anyone about the sighting, and is unsure whether her neighbour ever did. This is an interesting sighting of something which was clearly not a conventional aircraft. Both witnesses were used to seeing planes fly over so knew that this was different. However I do wonder if the object was a blimp at high altitude. We must consider the fact that it did not perform any abrupt manoeuvres. Also the witnesses were both quite young, and had probably not seen one of these before. When I suggested this possibility to Janice she did admit that this may have been the cause, though says that she could not find any information on airships travelling in that area back in the 1950s. The witnesses were quite sure that whatever it was it was at very high altitude, so it must have been sizeable, too big to have been an inflatable or balloon. Autumn 1994/95 – The Second Sighting On an early morning in the autumn of 1994 or 1995 when she was 48/49 years old, Janice had gone out to do her shopping at Sainsburys in Burnley, Lancashire. It was between 8.30 - 9.00am. It was a very clear and sunny morning with a cloudless blue sky. The moon was also still visible in the sky, and was a pink and mauve colour due to the morning light. Janice was climbing up a short hill on Church Lane alongside St Peters church. Aerial map of Church Lane showing position of the witness (A) and location of Sainsburys (B): 📷 As she looked up at the moon she suddenly noticed something else in the sky. She was astounded to see something which looked very similar to what she had seen back in 1951 – a dull silver coloured oval-shaped object! It appeared to be numerous miles away in the distance and was level with the moon in the sky but off to the right of it. It actually looked like it was coming out from behind the moon itself, so Janice assumed it was out in space. Photograph of the sighting location in the direction the UFO was seen: 📷 The object seemed to be of considerable size and moving at a fast speed. Just like her previous sighting, the object travelled in an arc across the sky. She watched it for 3-4 minutes until it had gone out of sight. Janice is convinced that it was something out of the ordinary. It did not look like a conventional aircraft of any kind. She also feels it is unlikely to have been a secret military craft as she saw the same thing back in 1951 and does not think they would have been sophisticated enough back then to create such a craft. I would disagree with this, as it is widely known that the Nazis were working on disc-shaped craft back in World War II, however if such a craft was being flown it is unlikely this would be done near to residential areas in plain sight. Witness drawing showing the UFO, its movement path and the position she was at: 📷 In this second sighting it is very unlikely that the object actually was behind the moon out in space. If it was then it would have had to have been absolutely massive to have been seen from Earth, and would have been known about and reported by many other witnesses and astronomers. It is much more likely that its positioning in the sky gave the impression that it was coming out from behind the moon, and that it was distant but actually in the atmosphere, similar to the first sighting. Conclusion It is very interesting that both of Janice’s sightings have been of seemingly very similar objects. Could this just be a coincidence, or did she experience two sightings of the same craft? Neither sighting seems intentional or directly linked to her, on both occasions the object was distant and there was no interaction in any way. Therefore it seems more probable that she was in the right place at the right time on both occasions and just happened to see two objects that essentially looked the same. Whether they were both genuine ET craft or something else entirely is hard to say. They certainly appeared sizeable but neither object performed any advanced manoeuvres, so the possibility of them both being blimps of some kind cannot be put out of the question. - May 2009 - Ormskirk - Black UFO Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Originally forwarded by Richard Hall Release Date: 26/07/2011 Most UFO sightings tend to fit into one of a number of common shapes, including discs, spheres and triangles. However sometimes very unusual objects are seen which do not fit into any of these categories. This report details a multiple witness sighting of one such object. One of the witnesses named Dan Rimmer got in touch with me in July 2011 via Richplanet.net to report the details of the incident. Sighting Details It was 6.30pm on a clear and still evening in May 2009. Dan and his friend Gareth were out driving North from Burscough towards Southport on Pippin Road. There was no-one else on the road at the time, it was quite quiet. Aerial map of Pippin Road showing the approximate location of the sighting: 📷 They suddenly noticed a strange object in the sky moving in an Easterly direction across the road in front of them. The object looked like a triangular cuboid shaped block with thin arms protruding from it diagonally underneath and at the front and back. The main body of the object was charcoal black in colour. The arms sticking out of it were dark grey in colour, and separated into two at the end. It appeared to be about the size of a large car. Dan estimates it was about 35 metres in the air, and 50 metres in front of them. Witness drawing of the UFO: 📷 The object was moving about 25 mph. It passed over the road as they approached it. As they drove closer they discussed it with each other. Both witnesses were shocked by what they were seeing. They parked up he car to continue to watch it but when they got out they could no longer see it, it had seemingly vanished into thin air. This was quite bizarre as there were only flat fields either side of the road so there was nothing it could have been hidden behind, it was just gone. The witnesses continued their journey discussing what they had just seen. Aerial map showing the approximate route of the UFO: 📷 Dan soon told his family and friends about what they had seen but they did not believe him. He is convinced that what he saw that day was an unusual advanced craft of some kind. He was astounded by the sighting and ever since has regularly contemplated what it could have been. Sadly Dan has since lost touch with Gareth so I am not able to speak with him about the incident. Sighting Analysis The appearance of the object in this incident is truly bizarre and I have not investigated any cases where a similar object was reported. The shape of the UFO and the strange “arms” protruding from it are both very unusual, although stick-like attachments are not completely unheard of. The spheres dropped by the craft in the famous Livingstone UFO incident had numerous arms sticking out of them which gave them the appearance of old sea mines. The biggest question is of course whether or not the object was a genuine advanced craft or something else. The object did not move at a very fast speed nor did it make any unusual manoeuvres which would designate intelligence. So could it have been a strange inflatable object of some kind, perhaps an art project? Or an elaborate kite which had become un-tethered? There is even the possibility it was a strange military drone, though there were no visible propellers or other means of keeping it airborne. These possibilities cannot be completely ruled out, though if it was one of these then where did it suddenly vanish to? Surely it would still have been visible in the sky travelling away into the distance? Perhaps it was under radio control, and was quickly brought down to the ground somewhere out of sight after it had headed over the road. However it appears to have been quite sizeable, and there was nothing but flat fields in the area. If it was a genuine craft then it was certainly of a very unusual type. What can be made of the protruding arms? Were these landing legs of some kind, or could they have been used for another purpose, perhaps to monitor the surroundings or to grab hold of objects. I have looked around online but cannot find anything mundane which could have been responsible for what the witnesses saw. If you know of anything which it may have been, please get in touch. For now the true origin of the object remains a mystery. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2011
- 18/03/2007 & March 2008 - Kovalam Beach India & York - Glowing USO & Blue Manta UFO Sightings
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Originally forwarded by Richard Hall Release Date: 11/08/2011 Nick has had two fascinating experiences which could well be ET related. The first is a sighting of a glowing underwater object that he saw while on holiday in India. It is quite rare for BUFOG to be contacted regarding USO sightings, but as this incident shows, they do occur from time to time. A year later Nick had another sighting of a glowing UFO from his home in York. This report covers both incidents in depth. For reasons of anonymity pseudonyms have been used 18/03/2007 – Glowing USO Between February and March of 2007 Nick and his partner went on an extended holiday to South India. On the 18th March they were staying at the Bethsadia Hermitage in the state of Kerala, a few miles from Kovalam Beach. There were not many guests there due to the time of year. Aerial map of Kovalam Beach: 📷 At 4.15am that morning Nick got up early to watch the local fishermen head out to sea from the beach. It was a warm and still morning. The sun had not risen yet, and there appeared to be a localised electrical storm about 400 yards out to sea. However there was something strange about this storm, it looked like the lightning strikes were coming upward from the sea itself! After a few minutes the fisherman suddenly began to get excited and started pointed at a dull yellow light which appeared to be coming from underwater around the area of this storm. It was moving parallel to the beach and looked like it was close to the surface. There was no wake or turbulence on the surface. From their vantage point both Nick and the fishermen could clearly see the object. The fishermen were chattering amongst themselves in Malayalam, Nick had no idea of what they were saying to each other. After a short while the light suddenly vanished. The air was filled with static electricity which made the hairs on Nick’s arms and head stand up. The fishermen did not head out to sea so Nick returned to the hotel. When he got back he found out the electrical supply had been affected, and also the Kovalam lighthouse had briefly stopped working. Power cuts are common in India so Nick has no idea whether these incidents were linked with either the light or the storm. When he told the hotel manager about the light he had seen, the manager informed him that lights are seen underwater in the area from time to time and that nobody has been able to find out what they are. Apparently when the lights are seen the fishermen are not able to catch any fish in the area, which is why they had not headed out to sea. Nick finds this interesting as fish are usually drawn to light not scared away by it. The fishermen believe the lights are supernatural in nature. Later in the morning Nick went for a swim and he noticed that the water felt heavy and he seemed to be more buoyant than usual. He has no idea if this was related to the incident or not, but felt it was worth mentioning. It is rare that BUFOG receives details of a USO sighting, but they do happen from time to time. Incidents such as this one support the theory that the ETs are using our seas as bases and are living alongside us out of sight. It is interesting that the yellow light was seen at the same time as the electrical storm. This could be purely coincidence but the two are probably linked. Perhaps the bolts of lightning were actually coming up from the object rather than down from the clouds. However this could have been an optical illusion. If they really were coming from the sky, perhaps the USO was the cause of the storm in the first place and the lightning was attracted to the object. Could the USO have actually been an electrical build up of energy being discharged in the water? Although worth considering, this seems unlikely due to the fact that the light did not remain in the one area but actually started moving along underwater. The fact the light moved also means it could not have been the morning sun reflecting off the surface. Also the fisherman would not have been reacting in the way they did unless it was defiantly something out of the ordinary – if it had been sunlight then they would be used to seeing it. The actions of the fishermen also mean it cannot have been misidentification of ships lights, they would certainly have known what these look like. It is unknown whether any of the electrical issues reported at the time were down to the proximity of the glowing object, whether they were down to interference from the storm, or whether it was merely coincidence. The fact that the hotel manager confirmed that unidentified lights had been seen underwater on previous occasions certainly points towards this being a genuine sighting of something unusual. If it was an actual glowing object what could it have been? It seems very unlikely that the military would be moving around underwater in an object which was so conspicuous from the shore. They would certainly have been aware that this area was used for fishing purposes and that they would be seen by the fishermen. Therefore I feel there is the possibility that this was something else entirely, an advanced underwater craft of some kind, perhaps extraterrestrial in origin. March 2008 – Blue Manta UFO Sighting It was midnight on a night in March 2008. Nick was at his home in Wilberfoss, York. He was about to get into bed and glanced out of the bedroom window. It was a clear night with good visibility. He looked up into the sky almost directly overhead and was amazed to see a glowing bright sparkling blue object. Nick describes the object as looking like the shape of a manta ray but without a tail. It had a domed central section and then what looked like a wing sticking out each side which was curved downwards. There were no markings visible on the object. Nick estimates that it was at an altitude of about 5000 feet and was the size of a jumbo jet. It was moving on a North Westerly course and seemed to be travelling at quite a fast speed. As it moved away Nick saw it silhouetted against the moon. He watched it for about a minute until it had moved out of sight. As it headed away he noted that the light was not really visible anymore, it was only really bright when it had been overhead. Nick’s wife was in the room and heard his shouts of surprise, but did not go to the window herself. This is an interesting sighting. Nick feels it was definitely under control, whether manned or unmanned and was some kind of craft. While this explanation cannot be ruled out, I do wonder if the object could have been a novelty shaped blue LED blimp. These are large inflatables that come in a variety of colours and shapes, and can sometimes be remote controlled. While these are quite rare this is still a possibility. Perhaps the object was closer, smaller and moving slower than it appeared to be. It is hard to accurately judge distances of objects in the sky after dark as there is no point of reference. You may feel that I am being overly dismissive here, but it is always good practice to take mundane explanations into account rather than assume everything is a genuine UFO from the off. I cannot really say either way, so the idea the object was an extraterrestrial craft cannot be put out of the question. It was certainly not a conventional aircraft or helicopter. Conclusion As you can see Nick has had two unusual sightings which appear completely un-related to one another. Both have very interesting aspects and could have been of very unusual objects. If he decides to stay in touch this report may be updated with further sightings as and when they take place. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2011
- 2009 - Glasgow - Orange Lights Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Report Originally forwarded by Richard Hall Author: Dave Hodrien Last Updated: 25/08/2011 Sighting Details Back in 2009 Kristopher Clinton and a work colleague had an unusual sighting while out at High Park, Glasgow. It was about 1.30am and the men were walking home from their night shift through the park. It was a calm and clear night. As they walked, Kristopher’s work mate suddenly pointed something out to him in the sky. They saw a collection of small amber coloured lights. The lights were not in any particular formation and seemed to be randomly positioned against one another. They also appeared to be stationary. After a short time the lights seemed to start fading away. As they did other lights seemed to appear at a different position to the original ones. This continued, with lights appearing for a random period of time then fading to darkness. There did not seem to be any particular formation to them. Whenever the lights were visible they did not move at all. The men were puzzled by what they were looking at and continued to watch the lights for up to 45 minutes. After this time they decided to continue home, with the lights still appearing at random in the sky. They could not think of anything which could explain what they had seen. Sighting Analysis No doubt the lights appeared very unusual to the witnesses. However I feel that it is likely they were watching a launch of multiple Chinese lanterns. Lanterns usually appear as amber coloured orbs of light as Kristopher describes. When there is a breeze blowing, lanterns tend to float on a path across the sky and seem to follow each other. However when the weather is calm they will float up into the sky and move about slowly in different directions or sometimes hover quite still for periods of time. Lanterns usually flicker in brightness due to the lit flame inside them. The more distant they are the more this effect is increased, and at great distance they can only be visible when burning brightly and seem to vanish for periods of time before suddenly reappearing. Of course while they are out of sight they can drift, which accounts for the fact that the lights kept on appearing in different positions in the sky. The fact this sighting took place in the early hours of the morning on a clear night probably means that what was witnessed was a launch of many lanterns from a celebration somewhere near to the park. It is unlikely that lanterns were being launched for the entire 45 minutes, but they can remain burning for quite a length of time, and with no wind to blow them would have remained in the same area of sky. I feel that this adequately explains what was seen. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2011
- 2010 - 21/06/2011 - Bartley Green, Birmingham - Black Disc, Orange Orbs & Silver Sphere Sightings
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Release Date: 11/08/2011 This report covers three UFO sightings over Bartley Green all experienced by the same witness, a lady named Sinead. She got in touch with me after coming across my contact details on the UK UFO Sightings website. 2010 - Black Disc UFO Sighting It was a clear and sunny day back in 2010. Sinead was sitting at the bedroom window of her house in Bartley Green and having a cigarette. There is a nice view of the surrounding area from the window so she was just looking out at the clear blue sky. There were no planes or helicopters visible, just a few birds flying between the gardens. Her cat came into the bedroom and approached her ankles. Sinead bent down and stroked her for about 5 seconds. When she looked back up she noticed there was now an object hovering in the sky. She blinked and squinted to make sure she wasn’t seeing things but the object remained visible. At first it looked like a thick black line, about four metres in length. It didn’t look like it was very far away, but the exact distance was hard to accurately judge. It was completely stationary, which made it look very un-natural. She continued to watch the object. After about 40 seconds it began to tilt forward. At this point it became clear that it was not cigar shaped but was a flattened disc. It continued to tilt on its axis for a number of seconds then suddenly halted again. It remained in that position for about 30 seconds. Then it began to slowly move away, heading off into the distance. This continued until it was just a spec and vanished from sight. Sinead was amazed at what she had just witnessed. She sat at the window ledge for about half an hour trying to come to terms with it. She found it very creepy, the way in which it had just suddenly appeared there and then sat there completely still and silent. She looked around on the internet to try and find something which looked similar to what she had seen. The best match she found was in the video where the two jets chase down a UFO over the M5 motorway. This video is widely regarded to be a hoax, but the object shown in it looked the same as what she had seen. This is an intriguing sighting. I find it very interesting that the object suddenly appeared within the space of 5 seconds. This supports the idea that it was something very unusual, as it was a clear day so surely Sinead would have seen the object move up to that position. If it had retained the appearance of a thick black line and had not tilted I would have suggested that it was a solar airship. These are long black cylindrical inflatables that lift up into the air when the air inside them heats up in the sun. It was a bright and clear day so this would be ideal weather conditions to launch one of these. However according to the witness the object was disc shaped and only appeared as a line initially when viewed directly from the side. There is the possibility that it was some kind of inflatable or blimp which had become un-tethered. However if it was, more random drifting movements would have been expected rather than the structured manoeuvres that the object seemed to perform. As Sinead did not see the object appear out of nowhere, suddenly vanish or move at a very fast speed this cannot be put out of the question, but it seems a little unlikely. Some of the aspects of this sighting are very interesting and suggest that the object may have been something out of the ordinary, perhaps this was a daylight sighting of a genuine disc-shaped craft. 2010 - Orange Orbs Sighting Later in 2010 Sinead had a sighting of a number of glowing orange orbs. Once again she was at her house. It was evening time when she spotted the orbs out of the window. First of all she spotted five of them that were in a perfect pentagon shape. Each orb was glowing a fiery orange and was constantly bright. They appeared to be in quite close proximity to one another. The orbs travelled across the sky on a straight path. Further behind the initial 5, Sinead spotted a further 2 orbs. These seemed to be travelling faster than the initial ones, and slowly but surely caught them up and overtook them. Sinead openly admits that Chinese lanterns could have been the explanation for the orbs. However she says that they appeared strange to her and unlike lanterns she had seen on other occasions. They seemed to be floating very closely to one another, formed a perfect shape in the sky, did not flicker at all and did not appear to rise in altitude throughout the sighting. I would agree that some of these observations appear a little strange, however I still feel that lanterns is the most likely explanation. They often seem to form shapes in the sky or move in a structured manner, but this can be due to them being caught in the same air current so they all travel in the same direction at the same speed. The two orbs that caught up the others could have been in a different air current alongside the main group, or could have been burning hotter providing them with more propulsion. 21/06/2011 – Silver Sphere Sighting On 21st June 2011 Sinead and her friend were once again smoking at the bedroom window and looking out over Bartley Green. It was a clear and sunny day. They noticed three very large planes flying extremely low. They reminded Sinead of B2 bombers from the war. However she is not interested in aircraft so has no idea of the exact model. It is possible that they were on their way to an airshow. As one of the planes flew past the clock tower in Selly Oak at low altitude, they suddenly noticed a small spherical object emerge from a nearby cloud. It looked white in colour at first, which could have been down to light reflection, but then stopped moving and turned a metallic silver colour. The sun was reflecting very brightly off one side of the object. The sphere remained stationary for about 30 seconds. Then suddenly it disappeared. This was followed by two flashes of light, one where the sphere had been and the second a little further across the sky. The girls discussed what they had just witnessed. About 3 minutes later, a thin cylindrical contrail appeared in the sky. The starting point for this contrail was where the sphere had initially been situated. Silver spheres are one of the more commonly reported UFO types. They are generally small in size and are probably un-manned monitoring devices. This could well have been one of these objects. Obviously sometimes silver coloured balloons can be the explanation. However there are some unusual aspects to this sighting. The object appeared to be under control; it moved out of the cloud and then abruptly came to a halt. It then remained in this position until suddenly vanishing. Surely if it was a balloon it would have not only drifted but would have remained visible. Then again perhaps it was still there but was reflecting the light in such a way that it was no longer visible from the girl’s location. Perhaps the flashes of white light were the object briefly catching the sunlight and brightly reflecting, this is a possibility worth considering. The fact that there was a contrail several minutes later is interesting but I feel probably not to do with the object in any way. ET craft are very rarely reported as leaving contrails in the sky, the very presence of one means that fuel has been used up, which tends to support a human-made explanation. Conclusion Sinead has had some interesting sightings over the two years. While all of them have the possibility of being something mundane, the black coloured disc and silver sphere sightings both have a number of aspects which are hard to put down to an everyday explanation. I hope that she continues to stay in touch and keep me informed of any further sightings she has, and if so this report may be updated going forward. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2011
- Winter 2010 - Tyneside - Orange Orbs Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Originally forwarded by Richard Hall Release Date: 26/08/2011 Most modern sightings of orange orbs seen in the sky after dark tend to be explainable by Chinese lanterns. However occasionally there are aspects to these sightings which cannot be explained so easily. This is one such sighting. Sighting Details It was 6pm on an evening in the winter of 2010. It was a clear and mild evening for the time of year, and there was a South Westerly wind blowing about 4 mph. Stephen Notti was in his house on Hudleston, Cullercoats Bay, North Tyneside. He was sitting in the living room watching TV. The front window blinds were open, offering a view to the South. Aerial map of Hudleston: 📷 Suddenly he noticed through the window an orange orb of light in the sky, which had seemingly just appeared from nowhere. He immediately stopped watching TV and stared at the object. It appeared to be pulsing in brightness, and Stephen estimates it was twice the size of a jumbo jet. As he watched it seemed to descend directly downwards at quite a fast speed. Then he noticed a second similar object appear and once again descend. Both objects continued to descend until they were about 600 feet off the ground. They then briefly halted. Next one of them went to the left, where as the other moved to the right, almost like they were searching for something. They then moved back together again. Next one of the orbs started moving to the East towards the sea, and a second later the other orb followed. Stephen continued to watch the lights. They moved about half a mile out to sea then briefly stopped. They then once again switched course and headed in a Southerly direction until out of sight. In total he had watched the objects for about 20 seconds. Sighting Analysis The appearance of the objects in this sighting certainly fits in with them being Chinese lanterns. These appear as orange glowing orbs at a distance, and often appear to pulse/flicker in brightness due to the lit flame inside them. It is hard to accurately estimate their size, and sometimes the bright glow coming from them can make them appear to be much bigger and more distant than they in fact are. That said I find the movement pattern of the objects in this sighting very interesting. Lanterns tend to either drift randomly and slowly rise when there is no wind, or if there is wind they tend to float on a straight course across the sky, again slowly ascending due to the heated air inside. However it appears that in this case both objects initially descended, something lanterns only tend to do when they are going out. Also they both seemed to appear from nowhere. It was a clear night so surely Stephen would have seen them both drift into view not suddenly appear? We must also take into account that once the objects had descended one headed one way and one the other. Stephen says that there was a South Westerly wind blowing, so it would be expected that both objects would have drifted in this direction, yet neither appeared to. Throughout the sighting they appeared to be following their own defined paths rather than just drifting in the wind, and it is for this reason that they may have been something other than lanterns. Interesting that the movements are, it cannot be denied that the appearance of the objects fits with lanterns. Therefore this cannot be completely ruled out. Perhaps at higher altitude the wind was blowing in different directions causing the objects to be buffeted around and seem to perform intelligent manoeuvres. So it is hard to say for definite exactly what the objects were, there is arguments both for and against the lanterns explanation. At the end of the day it’s down to what you feel is the most probable. Copyright Dave Hodrien 2011
- June/July 2007 - Withernsea - Glowing White UFO Sighting
Birmingham UFO Group Case Report Author: Dave Hodrien Originally forwarded by Richard Hall Release Date: 26/08/2011 Sighting Analysis Ralph Little often enjoys to sit out under the stars and watch the night sky. Around 9.45pm on a clear evening in June or July of 2007 he was doing precisely this, sitting out in the garden of his house on North Promenade, Withernsea, Yorkshire. It was a pleasant evening, warm and with a very light breeze blowing. The stars and moon were visible. The sun’s fading light could still be seen to the North West. Aerial map of North Promenade showing the location of the witness: 📷 Ralph is experienced in looking at the night sky and so knows what is normal to see and what is out of the ordinary. He watched a satellite cross the night sky, heading in a Northern direction. As it faded away into the distance he looked back to where it had come from and noticed another object which again appeared to be a satellite. He again followed it across the sky. As it began to move away to the North, something very bizarre happened. Suddenly it appeared that a bright electric blue light emerged from the rear of the object. It then immediately shot away at an incredible speed, banking off to the right as it went! It was lost from sight within several seconds, and moved so fast that the glow from it appeared as a light streak. Map showing the route of the UFO. The horizontal line indicates the point at which the bright light appeared, and the arrow indicates the point at which it appeared as nothing more than a glowing streak of light due to the speed of movement: 📷 Ralph had certainly never seen anything like it before. He was absolutely stunned. He knew that the object could not have been anything conventional. In his opinion it must have been one of two things. It was either an unknown spacecraft of Earth origin, possibly something developed in secret, or it was a genuine advanced craft of extraterrestrial origin. Sighting Analysis This is a very impressive sighting for a number of reasons. The witness was used to looking at the night sky so would easily be able to recognise meteorites, satellites, the International Space Station or other things seen on a regular basis. Due to the appearance of the object it certainly seems that it was up in space, though there is the possibility it was at very high altitude in the atmosphere. The fact it was initially moving at the speed of a satellite means it cannot have been a meteorite. Sometimes the suns rays can catch satellites and space debris, causing them to become extremely bright. This could possibly explain the sudden flash of light, but the incredible speed the object then moved off at shows that it was under powered control and not just an object drifting in orbit. After looking at the evidence available, I would have to agree with Ralph – this was probably either an experimental human-made spacecraft or an ET craft. It is of course impossible to say which, however if it was ours then it clearly had the ability to accelerate and move extremely rapidly. ET craft certainly possess these capabilities, as has been proved through countless sighting reports. So you may feel, as I do, that this was more likely to have been theirs than ours.
