About the event
With the year flying by we figured it was time for another sky watch before the winter months set in. As with our other recent sky watches we will once more be joining forces with UPRISING: UFO & Paranormal Research Group. This time we will be heading to a new location we’ve not previously held a sky watch at – Castle Ring in Cannock Wood, Rugeley.
Castle Ring is the remnants of an Iron Age Hill Fort located at the Southern end of Cannock Chase. It is an oval shaped area of grass and bushes, with a path leading around its perimeter. There is a car park situated at the Southern edge. The area has great views of the sky in all directions and like the rest of Cannock Chase is known for its UFO, cryptid and paranormal activity!
We plan to meet up at Castle Ring car park at 7pm on Saturday 14th September. However the car park is only open until 9.30pm so we will not be able to park directly on it. We have decided that the best place to park will be the housing estate on Gilwell Road just to the East. The estate has plenty of free spaces available (both on Gilwell Road and the side roads coming off it). Just be sure not to block anyone’s drive when you park up.
After parking, walk North along Gilwell Road, turn left onto Holly Hill Road and walk along it a short distance, and the Castle Ring car park entrance will be on the right. We will remain at the car park a short while. We will then head North and attempt to find a suitable area of flat ground to set up for the sky watch. If you arrive late and everyone has already left the car park then phone Dave and he will give you directions to come and meet up.
During the sky watch BUFOG Chairman Dave will go over some UFO sightings from the area, including ones he has personally investigated. Nath from UPRISING will cover some other spooky tales of ghosts and creatures seen in the vicinity. There will be a selection of snacks provided but you are also welcome to bring your own food/drink.
Weather permitting we will remain at Castle Ring till the early hours, although you are free to leave earlier if you wish. A camping chair is advisable as there are no benches present at the location. A torch and observing/recording equipment are also recommended. Please dress appropriately depending on the forecast. Children and pets most welcome. Parking:
